Tampa resident here! Also travel to Sarascrotum frequently. (lol)
Speed traps are rare in essence. More frequent on I4 and I75 from FHP. I4 is crazy. I made a trip to orlando international early in 4-5am a few days ago and caught one FHP doing real IO somewhere after lakeland i believe, the X50 picked it up from mile + away.
Then on my way back at around 7am there was one running CO on eastbound side of I4 with a pretty nice angle.
On I75, the FHP favorite spots are somewhere around St. Pete on i275 and i75 on Sarasota exits. Never encountered anywhere else between that area.
Freqency and county info:
Tampa:
Tampa has two police divisions, one is City of Tampa and for the whole Hillsborough county the Hillsborough sheriffs are in charge.
Hillsborough county sheriffs run Ka 33.8 Ghz from MPH industrie. I have also seen them use an Ultralyte at night. Their favorite spots at least in the west division is Sheldon rd and Linebaugh Ave.. Eisenhower Blvd and Memorial Highway.. and Hoover and Hillsborough ave.
TPD runs K band 24.15 Ghz and this is all I have encountered from them. No other info available.
Sarasota:
Sarasota has City of Sarasota cops which run 35.5 Ka and have old and new style Impalas. Possibly crown vics too.
Sarasota County sheriffs have old and new Impalas and run K band in them. I have also seen a crown vic run 35.5 Ka. Reports are that they use LIDAR as well.
