View Full Version : Questions regarding Veil application and drying time

1. If one soaks up the foam brush (enough but not dripping), does one pass over the surface just once (working down with very slightly overlapping strokes)?

2. If done as in #1, before the first coat dries should one go over it again or is that one coat enough? I've seen his video on radarbusters, it appears that he goes over it twice.

3. How much drying time is enough time before the car can be driven?

4. Should one coat the back of a LaserShield with it, or is the LaserShield enough?

I'll post pics of my veil job tomorrow.

Veil Guy - any answers?

Here are the pics.

VW Golf: it appears that both headlights have a little road grime on it. Next time I'll just put one coat and just dab off the excess at the bottom with a dryish brush (masking tape around light didn't work out too well).

Right headlight: I thought the coat was too thin and ran the wet foam over it another time. Bottom left corner didn't do too well, one can see the sagging drips from close.

Left headlight: this was a little bit better.

Frontal laser protection package: Veil on lights, parking lights, turn lights on side, lasershield on plate, plate angled down some.

I think I'm decently covered (wrt to laser mitigation, not jamming) for my primary car except for the little 'hole' on right headlight.

No streaking anywhere. I used the 2" foam brush since the 3" one wouldn't make it into the can. It's not too bad if one has masked tape and make quick even passes. Try to stop just before the edge of light, the excess will sag down with gravity for the next stroke.

What do you guys think?

Here is the other car, this one is a challenge.
Honda Pilot: this one was a little better since I didn't go over it twice. However, the acquisition range is likely to be high since these lights are huge!!

Right headlight: this one seems a little lighter and this is probably the target from shoulder of road.

Left headlight: came out pretty good.

Front: that license plate looks big and bright, I probably should veil it.

Side: the veil isn't very obvious even on the darker side, angle on plate isn't much (not much room to wiggle here, not too keen on drilling holes in fender for aftermarket plate holder).

One pass with slightly overlapping strokes is the best way to do it IMO (BTW your veil job looks pretty darn good)!

2. If done as in #1, before the first coat dries should one go over it again or is that one coat enough? I've seen his video on radarbusters, it appears that he goes over it twice.

One is all you need!

3. How much drying time is enough time before the car can be driven?

As long as the weather is decent a few hours is plenty!

4. Should one coat the back of a LaserShield with it, or is the LaserShield enough?

I'll post pics of my veil job tomorrow.

Laser shield alone IMO is enough, I see you live in WA like me (the State POPO's here are real A-holes when it comes to this stuff)!

The veil & laser shield will help a lot however with that much flat surface area you might wanna consider a good jammer, (I think a bra would help quite a bit too)!

Thanks, yes I'm in western washington too.

Thanks for the tips/answers. The pictures don't capture the veil condition on the Golf, I know I can do a better job like I did on the Pilot. WSP/PD will see thru that attempt and may give grief. The thing is that the brush was more loaded (almost dripping) on the Golf and hence had the trouble.

Jammer is out of the question right now.

I'd really love to see what the punchthrough ranges are on these and fine tune my driving appropriately.

I have a VW too. I also have the same rough look and applied it like you. I think it is supposed to look that way. I have seen that some other people have used paint thinner to make it look better but I suspect that it will thin it out too much. I was stopped once and asked what was on my headlights. I told them don't know; must be road grime.

Yeah, I was thinking of the same line too!!

Also, I applied Veil to the shiny VW emblam. It's plastic but the I suspect that it is a good reflector. Just something else to consider.

After a few days of driving around (no highway/freeway driving yet), I noticed today that some of it has flaked off from the emblem. Probably Veil doesn't adhere too well to it. Or maybe I didn't clean it thoroughly.

Mine hasn't flaked off. Probably try a good cleaning.

Can this be spray painted onto the required surfaces?

Then you could have an even coat don't you think?
