View Full Version : Please Educate me on LIDAR Reflectivity--i.e., Car Colors

Part of the fiscal mismanagement plan for our household includes the purchase of a new car next year. I'm currently leaning toward a Chrysler 300C SRT-8 or, if the bank account's a bit low, a plain old 300C.

Laser enforcement is increasing around these parts and, while I won't allow it to be the sole consideration in my color choice, I am going to be somewhat mindful of of the profile that my next vehicle will present to LIDAR when I start my shopping. I know that the 300C presents a pretty ample target, with its large headlights and fog lights and fairly vertical chrome grill, but I'd still like to be halfway stealthy.

I know that black is the least reflective and lighter colors are more reflective. What part of the color spectrum should I shy away from? What's the scoop on blue . . . green . . . dark gray? Do metallic or pearlescent paints reflect LIDAR more handily or do they disperse the beam?

Incidentally, VEIL and some sort of jammer, probably a Blinder like the one that's sitting on my workbench right now, will be part of the program.

Thanks for your help.

Stay away from white or silver colors because they reflect the greatest. Black will be the hardest to hit with laser along with dark blue, etc. I have heard that red is hard to hit but I could be wrong.

I would think red would be one of the easier colors to hit since laser is infrared, but I could be wrong.

Go with any dark color for best results. Black, dark blue, green, etc. Not just for laser reflectivity but because dark colors don't stand out as much in traffic (cops love to target bright red or yellow cars, for example).

Regardless of the car's color, the front plate (if your state requires them), and headlights are the best "targets" for laser. Using an anti-laser plate and Veil on the headlights (along with a good detector and the Blinder you said you already have) should make your car "invisible" enough to slow down in time. This of course is the key, you want to get your speed down to the limit before the LEO can get a reading.

Clasen24, I'll be mounting my Blinder heads exactly the same place on my Mustang.... You just screwed the brackets to that plastic bar thingy? As I don't have a front plate, I'm goinnna try to get the heads out as close to the headlights as I can; I'm not real sure how I'm gonna do that.

Unfortunately, it's like 107 and humid here today, so any outside car-type activities are on hold for a while.....

I Veiled the headlights, but I masked off the side market light portion, right along the line on the lens. Don't forget the fog lights, too!

But the good news is that my Colgan bra is due today by UPS!! Woo-hoo!

hey man, my car unfortuantly is not a mach 1, I just have the Grille Delete and the Chin spoiler. But yes, it was mounted to the plastic piece. Is there any way you could snap a few quick shots of you head lights, treated w. veil. I didnt relize you could tell that something was treated w. veil I thought it was a clear coat. In CrazyVOLVOrobs' the plate looks pretty dark. ALSO, is the laser shield plastic? or what is it?? Thanks guys
