I will have a quad LI, MEM-TEK modified ZR4's on the 9500ci and a V1.

I should have a Blinder M27 by then and if I have not installed it on the truck we can mount it there on a vehicle and test it out.

I have pushed the test back to the end of July, that will give me enough time to get everything set (get equipment) and enough time for people to request time off. It will also give me enough time to scout locations.

The location will be around the Lansing area. The official location is not yet set and it will also only be revealed to those confirmed attending so we don't have any unexpected visitors. :D

I have; V1 (3.863 IIRC), 9500ci, LI, and a sexy GTO.

For testing purposes, only the V1 would be available seperate from my car, the 9500ci and LI are entrenched in my car's internels.

If we're going late July, 7/25 should work for me.

Your right, I have never gotten a laser ticket with them on my car so I can't complain. I haven't ever had my system tested at a event so I am really interested in how they will preform in this scenario, compared to newer models of Laser jammers.

Well I have finally decided on a location. I could not find anything suitable in my general area but found something 20 miles away north of a small town. Not a bad drive from lansing, about 30 minutes at most.

I would like to know what radar and lidar(guns) people can bring if any, especially NMA. I will also call him tomorrow.

Once I know what radar/lidar equipment we will have I will PM people attending with a link to download the document that has all of the info.

I'll bring my table in case we need some horizontal surface to put something on, besides the ground. I can grab some paper plates and plastic utentsils. (We're looking at how many people, like 6, or something?)

Just put my pooch down on Saturday, so I'd like to see some dogs if possible.

Why are the symptoms of transmitting off frequency?

While driving through the country I somehow landed on 95.7 on the stereo, and when I talked on my CB it came through my car speakers, I'm not sure what to make of it.

usually it is other people telly you that you sound bad or they can't understand you. Seeing as NMA will have his scanners there we can easily verify what frequency you are transmitting on and see if it needs to be sent in for a tune.

your symptoms actually sound like the CB overpowered the normal frequency and made it though to the radio. It tends to happen.

One thing I would like to test:

http://www.rainx.com/images/bugspray_main.jpg

It's RainX bug and tar SHIELD. I used it on my trip to SC, seemed to do a decent job in regards to bugs. When I put it on, it made the entire front of the car have a matte finish, so I was wondering if itd have any effect on dampening lidar.

I also have easily removable grills to test the 9500ci open view vs concealed myths.

Sorry for the late notice as I worked 13 hours today. And surprised to see I picked up laser while in the semi truck today w/ the V1. Yeah baby! Thanks FoolishOne for bringing all those items especially the portable power. I have mine charging up right now. Both of my Murs Radios should be charged by the morning. I just found my Original Escort x and k band radar detector that Mike Valentine was involved in making. I'll bring that too. I am busy getting packed for the event. The only radar again I won't have will be 35.5 and Pop more. I have 34.7 (newly acquired), 33.8, 3 k band radar guns, two x band radar guns (one is from the 1960's w/ an actual meter for the speed display, it drains portable powers so this one will have to be used in someone's vehicle while it is running, takes a lot of power, forgot to grab 2 c batteries for the k band bushnell. I don't have a case for my Stalker ATR which I am on the hunt for presently. So many detectors will be brought just so you know so we for sure won't be biased. I will bring my Cellphone jammer if anybody wants to check it. Languy informed me there is coverage w/ Verizon at the test site, but I need to find out if Sprint and Cingular also have coverage there too. I guess we'll find out tomorrow. Yes, I will bring my Spectre 2 along w/ 2 VG-2 Interceptor RDDs, one regular VG-2 and one "Super tuned" by myself. No I won't be bringing the semi, I will be in a small car just like Languy. Gotta run and thanks so much for everyone's support on this. In the end, we will all be smiling:). I also have a 3.872 V1 we can test out too. Charley my Basett Hound will be coming w/ me.

Probably about 10:30am.

Our format is, ummm.....very "loose", or maybe I should say not strict. If we see something outrageous or weird, someone will just pick up a detector and drive to the end of the course.

We can test your setup really anytime, but before lunch would be nice so that we have something to discuss over lunch. ;)

languy, I meant to take a picture or video of our extreme setup, because 450' (even that is just lucky blips) for the V1 would raise some eyebrows. Remind me to snap a pic.

Well I just got back to South Bend and am sitting in a hot boring office with no windows....the polar opposite to the fun in the sun that we had today! Meeting NMA, LAN, Reb, Fool, and lol was a lot of fun! The radar tests got finished up and the LIDAR shots went pretty well too, I'd say. Not sure if there's any "interesting" information or trends that came of it but we did a little scatter testing too...I eagerly await LAN's tabulations!

Just made it back, it was fun and interesting meeting new people. I will try to get those results up sometime this week, but as we all know I have a hectic schedule ;) so I will work on them as much as possible. Hope everyone makes it back safe and I think Monday I shall be sending in my V1 for the 33.8 problem on the front horn. :( I hope they can fix it without messing with anything else on it, seeing as it is a monster on the rest. :D

Here's what I have from my car, Languy has the rest.

New Knowledge:
My CB peaked/tuned by Sparkys CB shop sounded pretty good even without any SWR tuning (got lost 3.5 miles away and could still talk with them on the CB).
The GTO honeycomb grill will effect Ka band for a remote radar unit mounted behind it, but no noticeable effect on K or X
ZR4 by itself or in combination with a LI will not allow a PLII to get any readings at any distance. (10+ runs Aiming all over the car, even had the front license plate on)
Even waiting to pull the trigger at less than 500ft the gun could still not get a reading.

Not New Knowledge:
Rear ZR4 sucks.

My Blinders are fairly low mounted and they gave sporadic performance, sometimes they could only get me at 190ft and sometimes they would get PT at 1100ft. LanGuy is going to do the calculations but the average for my car seemed to be PT at 400 ft. It was a fun day of testing really good to meet everyone, first time I ever shot a laser gun scary to see how far away I could get a reading on cars. The Spectre that ProundNMAmember had was also a pretty cool device my Whistler did really good against it. (good as in not detected at all)

To share my results. I have LI Quad with veritcal mounting alongside the license plate in the rear. I got JTG results but the rear was JFG only when plate was targeted. I have an explorer which has giant reflectors in the taillights causing PT's at <400 ft.

X-band results. They are going to be different then the rest because the antenna was aimed at a different angle but because of the hills it really cut down detection range.

EDIT: I forgot to add that when the 3.872 was tested the gun was in a different position. It was lower to the ground, so that is why you see the lower numbers.

I was thinking about what happened during the laser test of the front end of my car and I got to thinking. The first time we did the test it was jamming until I slowed down to around 20mph from 50 in front of the gun. Do you think in a real world situation if I was going 80 and I was targeted slowing down would reducing the effectiveness of the jammers making the LEO get a PT at a slightly lower speed.

Stealth Stalker
07-29-2009, 02:04 AM
There has been speculation on the so-called "nose down effect", which is when you decelerate so rapidly that your front end -- and thus your jammers -- point downwards, resulting in punchthrough. It has not been widely tested. However, those who have tested for it have not been able to make it happen. I maintain that it is a possible concern, along with many other factors, that can contribute to punchthrough. If you're running a weak jammer, or have a less than ideal install, then nosing down certainly isn't going to help you.

V1 should pick up 33.8 almost as good as K band. There was a big gap from the CI and 3.826 to the rest of the field on 33.8. One of my V1s is a 3.826, so its performance is good to see!:D

Given that several other RDs had similar short range with 33.8, there may not be anything wrong with yours. 3.872 did even worse, especially with POP off! OTOH, you got drastically different results with the rear antenna. With on-axis Ka I get similar range with the front and rear antennas. But I do notice the rear antenna has better off-axis detection on Ka. I was told by Mike Valentine to expect the same K and Ka range on the front and rear antennas. To be on the safe side maybe you should have it checked.

How did the other V1s do on Ka with the rear antenna?

Were the CI and 3.826 tested first? The reason I ask is the possibility that something happened to the 33.8 radar that caused the range to drop on all the other RDs.

nope not tested first, actually right about in the middle. What really scares me about sending it in is that they might do something and I would lose all of awesome detection I am getting on the other bands.

No harm sending it in. They won't make it any worse. Mike the tech will often call and tell you what they found wrong with it. They normally get it back to you within a week or so. I'm only one day away UPS ground though.

From the results it looked like several other RDs had off-axis issues on 33.8. But normally the V1 is very strong on 33.8, both on and off-axis.

Sorry it took me so long getting back to everyone. Computer is finally fixed extra special thanks to Languy. The testing we did was a lot of fun. The 9500ci performed very well. The different V1 versions had quite the differences on the different radar bands. After testing the 3.818,3.789,3.826,3.858,3.863,3.864, and 3.872, I was really shocked w/ my 3.872. I may send it back into VR w/ some harsh specific instructions on what needs to be done. There were 4 Bel STi's at the event. Now my X50 Rev 3 had some very different detection against off axis k band. One time 400 something feet, the next 600 something feet and the next 800 and something feet. And just to show everyone I wasn't lying I took the portable power and walked backwards away from the k band source w/ Languy walking next to me and got close to 500ft so yes that was weird, BUT WEIRD THINGS HAPPEN W/ THESE ELECTRONICS ALL THE TIME FOLKS! The Whistler Pro 78 warned me of the local county sherrif at the other end of the road. That was weird but at least the Pro 78 let me know he was there.:D I don't remember which test we were doing but on the 9500ci, REBinc was getting 1001 ft of detection but after I wiped off his diodes, he was getting 1215 ft of detection. So wiping off your detection diodes/lj diodes really does make a difference. It was nice to meet all that attended Saturday and Sunday events at Henderson park. Thank you so much for all the fun. Charley my dog had a blast! Languy and myself are going to finish up w/ some VG-2 Interceptor testing here in the next few weeks on a weekend. This shouldn't be too hard if the weather cooperates. Languy, I will see what I can do about your CB antenna setup. There has to be something wrong w/ that LittleWil. Hope to meet all of you and others again soon. Proud

Also on the testing done, I was surprised when 33.8 NON POP radar gun extreme off axis was being run, that the 3.872 V1 picked it up quicker when POP mode was on as compared to POP mode being off by roughly 300-400ft. And on the same testing, I thought it was interesting while using the X50 Rev 3 that it picked up 33.8 quicker when POP was off as compared to POP being turned on by roughly 300-400ft. I am not sure which settings were on when the BEL STi's were being run but I think they performed well.

So let's see if we can find an Indiana location that is close to Illinois so there is a chance that St. Louis area folks will come. It would make me feel real good if Chicago/Indianapolis/St. Louis/Louisville/Milwaukee/Detroit/ and anywhere else could come. Rebinc, how many spots are there East of Alvin Illnois into Indiana?

Well, they don't call Indiana the "Crossroads of America" for nothing. It actually looks like Indianapolis would be fairly central for Chicago, St. Louis, Toledo, Dayton, Louisville, and Detroit area.

Depending on who expressed interest, the "Center Mass" would shift and we could find a new city/town. Depending on timing I'd be happy to go down a day ahead of everyone and scout out quality shooting locations.

If we all brought friends from our area hotel costs could be split, saving money. I could get my better half to clip coupons for everyone to eat cheap. Come on guys, lets make this work! ;)
