I was impressed when driving back from Ohio to Virginia this morning that I did not have 1 false alert from the STi due to cheap detectors.
I passed MANY cars that had cheap leaky Cobras (most improperly mounted too) on there windshields. I didn't relize how popular Cobras were, I guess some people really like to use crap.
No false alerts from the cheap detectors and I had POP detection enabled on the STi!
Cobra basically has the market cornered. They're probably the top-selling detectors out there. Bels and Escorts are only sold in a few high-end electronics stores, and they cost literally $100 more than the most expensive Cobra. The V1 is only sold by Mike himself, and the vast majority of drivers see it as overkill. As long as Cobra produces $100 detectors and saturates Wal-Marts, Targets, and K-Marts everywhere with them, they will continue to be all over the road.
All of this information about the STi is a very good sign for it. It's still going to take a lot for a $450 detector to bump its way into the Big Three (Big Four?), but this is a promising sign.

Not in Ohio, but I did in New Jersey the weekend before. I was driving home from Atlantic City and I encountered 2 NJ troopers using X band. Both were constant on. The first one was a NJ trooper that was already serving a customer on the side of the road. The second encounter was constant on moving X band from the other side of the AC Expressway.
It seems to me that the X band detection on the STi is about the same as the other high end Beltronics and Escort detectors.

When I got my STi I did a little side by side leakage test with my Cobra 9700. When the cobra had Spectre and VG2 detect on it would leak X-Band as the STi would go off. The detector had to be within 1 foot to set off the STi tho. I turned the Spectre and VG2 detect off than the STi was silent even when side by side.

hehe, I live in brigantine (right near AC)... I havent had any X band falses with my 995, but I have had POP go off for no reason a couple times.
Did you get any K band falses on RT-30 (white horse pike)... if you even drove on it.
