So just how good is the sti Vs the big dogs?

I have been away from the radar game for a few mouths do to the fact that I had to sell off my X50 but I,m back using in old 8500 but I want to upgrade within the next few mouths to a Rx65 or sti driver between these two what is the best one?. I used a friends Rx65 for a very short time [less the a week] and it seemed like it was a sweet detector but I was unable to tell for sure because of the short time I had it. I would love to get my hands on both but I have been buying to many toys lattley and so I can only get one so should I get a RX65 or Sti driver?.

The STI is better than the RX65 at Ka and Laser reception, simalar in performance on K band and the STI is also better with false alerts...

If you live in a detector illegal area then STI is the go.

The STi appears to be the one to get at the moment if your buying a new unit. The STi appears to beat the X50 in most categories except some tests in laser. I concour on the RX65, the STi has turned up Ka reception to a new level for the Belscort RD's.

The V1 appears to still have the lead in X and K, but on Ka the STi appears to beat the V1 on 2 of the 3 bands. The V1 is still the laser king.

Depending on the radar used in your area could determine what detector you buy, but if you have a lot of Ka the STi is the one to buy at the moment.

Ya I have been doing alot of reading up on the sti and it seems that the Sti is the real X50 killer but I will have to test it out before I say for sure.

I am not a member of the gol test but I have been known to do my own testing and I really think that there is no real clear winner atleast I can say this right now but after I get my hands on a sti and some other firends detectors I can't say for sure because like I said I have never used a sti driver I only know what I have read about it and from what other memebers on rd.net have said about it.

As for laser yes I do agree that the V1 is the king at this but the X50 and first 8500 are not far behide I can say this because I have been saved from atleast one ticket with the 8500 and this might have been a one time thing but I know that I got saved because I was doing well over the speed limit when I got a laser alert and the 8500 was going off for a good long time before I saw a under cover P71 car shutting laser ahead. I think that its very safe to say that the RX65 is the weakest laser detector atleast in the highend detector world

I am telling you even thow I am using a almost 7 year detector it still has saved me many times within the last few days and in my opinion the only real weakness other the its lack to detect pop mode is the fact that it has very bad instant on range but of corse in the Rd game this is a very bad thing.

Also the STI is better on POP too it can alert to 16ms POP and it alerts actually more than the V1. Also according to those i have spoken to it doesn't even false POP

Thats odd coming from someone who only owns one of them for direct comparision purposes, (not to mention that one of the big 4 was bought rather recently)?:shock: :shock:


Anycase... Based on the most recent tests (I assume CVR is going by this) It really depends on where you live, since the X50 is second (only to the V1) on K band, and K band is the most widely used band there is... if one does mostly urban driving and their city has mostly K band (which many do), it may be right up their Alley... also laser its only 2nd to the V1 (minimal help there) but many cities are skipping Ka and are using K and Laser... but most people who (actually own both V1/X50), will say the X50 falses much less (or Belscorts in general false less), so the X50 may be the Top detector out of the top 4 in that case, because its certainly Top-notch there, case closed.
Point is: There is really no best/worst detector among the top 4... each has its own niche and each serves its purpose.

For example:

V1: All out detection... a ton of freeway/highway/thruway use.
STI: Hands down king... In places where RD's are illegal.
X50: Urban driving, especially where K band is used.
RX65: Mixed between Urban and Highways.


Now that is just an example: There are a Ton of X&Y factors, but just a sample list of each niche each detector occupies.
