I bought my STi Driver in the beginning of May but I didn't have a chance to see how it really works until last week when I made a road trip up the 401 to Orangeville.
I had it mounted right on the dash (stealthed-usable but not noticeable) with the HWY mode. Being a Holiday weekend for the US I thought I would see a lot of LEO's out there but was dissappointed that I couldn't give this a good run. At least running through the Kitchener/Guelph area I expected to see a lot!
On the way up and down I had the occasion to run into only 3 traps, 2 of the the units were facing the opposite way and the 3rd already had a call pulled over. In all the unit did however pick them up early enough to be able to slow down....but I did however notice that everytime I came up to one of those cell towers the unit would sent a couple of Ka alerts and stop. Talking about being sensitive!!! I read on RadarRoys site that you should use the highway mode when on the hwy, in the city, city mode to stop all the false alerts. Now reading some of the articles here in this forum I am wondering if I would have the alerts coming from those cell towers if I was in the auto mode? I guess I will see on my next road trip up the 401.
Living next to a border town a lot of guys out there seem to think that the spectre units are down this way........but I haven't seen any around. Has anyone seen any and where di you see them???? Oh, one more thing, boy this units heats up a lot! Is this the way this unit suppose to operate?Don't want to shove this unit down your pants!
