Default Radar Detector of the Future

    Hello Gentlemen,

I am posting this to see what any of you think will be the RD of the future?

For example right now we have the RX65, the X50 and the V1. Are there any thoughts out there as to what RD will be at the top in 2 or even 1 year.

Are there any RD's in the production stage that will cast a shadow over Rd's in the near or somewhat near future?

The top three makers you mentioned have been at the top for 10 or more years and probably won't change. In my opinion cheaper brands by Whistler, Cobra are not willing to invest as much money. Their main goal seems to be, produce as much junk as they can and making as much money as possible. Like to see better detection of Ka and Pop radar.

well i didnt mean company, i meant RD detector period. I know the top three, (top two actually) will be on top. But i want to know if anyone knows what device will be released by these companies that will be very prominent.

Since tickets cant be issued due to POP alone, I personally think POP is a marketing tool and not useful. Would love to hear comments on POP pro or con.

The point of POP, at least, with the "Good Bear" non-ticketable way, is to use it to determine speeds of cars, and when one is "juicy", turn to instant-on. Basically the scenario would be pop, pop, pop, pop (which you don't detect, though the possibility that you would does exist), then you come flying by and you are nailed with the instant-on. Bad.

So yeah, I would deem POP detection important.

My take on POP is this:

Instead of an officer sitting there and instant-on'ing possible speeding vehicles as they pass, and setting off [most] radar detectors in the vicinity, he can use POP mode to get a good speed estimate. He can then verify the speed with regular instant-on, which only requires a second press of the button when a POP speed is displayed.

Therefore, a POP alert might be your only indication that speed monitoring is taking place, when traffic ahead is being targeted with POP. This could allow you to slow down before you have the opportunity to be instant-on'd, at which point you are screwed.

Do officers use it often? Probably not. I don't think there is a great deal of interest in defeating detector users, since there are "plenty of fish in the sea" if they want to write tickets. But, I could see it being used by an officer whose primary job is speed enforcement, who uses his equipment to it's fullest capability and prides himself with being sneaky and writing tickets. I have no doubt that it is being used somewhere.

Bottom line: POP detection has the potential to save your a$$.

I think that most people completely miss the idea behind POP mode, and only focus on the fact that it can't be used to write tickets, so they don't think there is any reason to have it turned on.

I only recommend turning it off if you someone who is easily annoyed by false alerts, you are using a detector that actually has a lot more false alerts with POP turned on, and you are comfortable giving up the extra bit of security having pop on provides.

They are using it here in wisconsin with regularity in waukesha county. I get pop pop pop ka band. Every time i get pop i monitor my speed and sure enough 3 out of 5 times i see em up ahead. Usaully with some one pulled over.

Another popular hang out is on onramps of to the left side elevated shooting cars under the bridge coming thru, with laser

hahah you made a joke (RD detector = RDD = BAD) no big deal

as for your question, the next gen units should offer BETTER LIDAR detection, sure I could just pick up a Jammer, but I want that to be incorporated into the detector...........and Belscorts units should atleast have the option of having a remote display like the V1, sure they got a remote mute button and alert LED (Which sorta helps me because its on the top of my gauge cluster in plain sight, But thats being used for my GT2 right now until I get a Jammer)but IMO thats not enough really

as for the POP issue, personally for me it falses WAY TOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH so I dont care for it, as long as there are Cobras on the road, my POP sensors stay OFF

and wouldnt this be better in the General Forum area???????? just wondering

v1..i think eventually mike will be able to make his detector the best at detectoring every type of band in th fastest time..and with the arrows & bogey counter, this radar will have a clear advanage over many others

detectoring another funny joke again no big deal just a funny typo thats all

The Bogey Counter was already really matched (and in some opinions, myself included: surpassed) by the Expert Meter (or Threat Display in the case of Bel) found on higher end Belscorts, it'll display 8 contacts and their respective signal strength (Sure youll probably NEVER need all 8, but it's there) The V1 only shows strength of 1 (the strongest), so while speaking strictly about the bogey counter and strength meter (IGNORING THE ARROWS for the time being)..............it just behaves like any other multi LED system 1 to show the band and then more to show strength, only difference is that it has a number next to it all to show how many other tracks its recieving

now as far as the Arrows are concerned, ill admit I like um too, theyll help in many instances, but with experience a X50 or RX65 USER can interpret signal direction as well, but it does take more effort than simply looking at the arrows on the display......but from what I hear the patent on that one is due to expire soon, sure Mike can just renew it but id be interested to see what happens if he doesn't

and when you put it all together its still like all the others that I mentioned before except with arrows to point at the LEO, and EXCELLENT range compared to all the others is definately a plus

Now the primary things on the V1 that id want on ALL other high end units are: DUAL ANTENNAS [self explainatory 2 is better than 1], uber LIDAR sensitivity [X50 is second, but not too close, V1's laser is just too good], and it's remote display (Except with a full text display like say my X50, and a mute button)[just having a remote box with a power LED, alert LED, and mute button is just not enough sometimes]

and When mike moves forward, Escort will be right behind, they wont let mike, or anyone else for that matter monopolize the market, its just bad for business

oh yeah and I think that Valentine ALREADY beats the rest on all bands of detection (except for maybe Ka, where the RX-65 is real close if not better)
