Default Help with Beltronics Radar Detector, Speaker Problem

    Help with Beltronics Radar Detector

    Beltronics X65

I bought it NEW in the box from a seller on eBay in feb of this year, $220, retails $330, thought I got a deal…
It worked fine up until the beginning of the month (July).
Then the internal speaker stopped working, the headphone jack works, just not the internal.
I called Bel and they said they wouldn’t honor the warranty because it didn’t buy it from an authorized dealer, they wanted a receipt and I didn’t have one.
They charged me $60 for a repair, gave it to me for $30 after I talked to a customer support supervisor.
I got it back on Thursday of last week, happy that I had my protection back.
Today after work I turn the car on and low and behold no noise, speaker is out again.
I called Bel but they are closed. I’m sure they will want me to send it in again for ANOTHER 14 days and charge me another $30 for a speaker.
I’ve never dropped it or left it in the sun all day, I take it off the hook and put it in my din while at work, it doesn’t ride and bounce on the rear view or sustain any sort of impact at all. It just randomly dies apparently. Has anyone had this problem or have a viable solution that would help me out. I really cant afford to drop $300 on another radar detector… Thanks all.

Oh yea, I would caution everyone against a Beltroncis item. I should have gone with the Escort…

FYI, these are basically the same company. The detectors share common components.

    Thanks..
Looks like I might be driving around with one ear bud in so I can hear my unit until I get the cash for something new that works consistently, its been a hellva radar detector besides this non working speaker issue. Maybe Bell will be cool and fix it for real but I’m not counting on it, and I don’t know about another two weeks running with nothing. Does anyone ever wire into their stereo with this external earphone jack?

Another option for you is to buy an aux speaker.

I am not sure if this would solve your problem or not but this would probably be easier then replacing the speaker inside the RX65. Just like hardwiring a RD

What exactly does eBay as a corporation have to do with this? and why should they be hated or to blame?

They are not the ones that are the actual sellers of items, all eBay does is host a marketplace where individual sellers can market their wares.

Buyer beware, the sweet taste of getting a good price fails in comparison to the bitter taste found by poor service.

It is up to the consumer to do the research, and possibly take a chance buying any item fram an "unauthorized" reseller.

Sorry for the harshness, but it really annoys they schmit out of me when someone gets hosed by an unscrupulous seller in an online auction site and they blame the market place. it is about as ridiculous as buying a piece of garbage from a flea market, and then complaining about the town that hosted the flea market and saying it is their fault.

For a temporary fix to your internal speaker not working, you could always get a "cassete adapter" like the type used for portable cd players use so people can use them in their car by inserting the thingy in the cassette player. Or get some cheapie powered speakers for an ipod and use that temporaraily. But I think bel should stand behind their repair that you paid for, and it did not fix your problem, this should be warrantied! period! did the tell you that heir chargable repairs are covered under a workmanship warranty?

sellers on ebay can sell crapy escorts and bel rx65. when you think about it..why are you paying way below market price for these high end RD? well because sellers buys these crap escorts or bel at bulk and pick them up from borders near arizona and sell them way below market price. ebay isint to blame but its the sellers. you just cant trust them ..thats why you buy from the manufcature or people like roy.

Thank you for the lesson. But basically what I meant Mr. lawyer is that sellers on Ebay set a name for Ebay itself. 90 percent of radar detector sellers on Ebay are shady. This in turn gives us RD gooroo's a bad feeling about Ebay.
