    Default STI Heat

I have recently moved my STI from a dash mount (black dash) to a stealth mode out of direct sunlight. As a result, the heat of the RD has been reduced considerably. Prior to that I had loosely covered it on the dash with a single page map on white paper that had reduced the heat somewhat while also covering it from direct view. I wonder if some of the problems some people are having with the STI are a result of the unit overheating on the dash in direct sunlight. At present, even after eight hours of driving the unit is relatively cool, and works very well.

Why can every other RD I've ever owned stay in the car in direct sunlight on the hottest days and NEVER have any heat related problems...................

Bel needs to FIX this issue......

Totally UNACCEPTABLE for a $450.00 RD.......

The heat problem must be related to the stealth design. Perhaps some components are, of necessity, sealed where in a non stealth detector, they would be vented.

All this *****ing about the unit shutting down when hot is nonsense. The only time it shuts down is when the interior of the car is so hot no human would be riding in it. Just turn on the air/open the windows and reset after a minute or two. Would you rather the unit actually destroy itself if it really detects an over temperature condition internally such as an internal short?

    Default electronics

Electronics sure can get hot. Don't forget to use the rd case that is "supposed" to come w/ most BelEscorts, and V1's.

    Horse Droppings...............

In 90 degree heat (33 Celcius) with the A/C blasting so cold I dam near needed a sweater.........it still over heated every 20 - 30 minutes.
I had to shut it down for it to cool down.
    Then re-boot it.
I'm paying $450.00 for an RD that will only run for 20-30 minutes in the Summer :?:

It did the same in cooler weather after 20 - 30 minutes. (70 Degrees)

I got every right to B itch.......

If you are accurately describing YOUR problem then you obviously have a defective unit. The only time mine has ever shut down from overheating is when I left it in the car with the windows up on a 95 degree day WITH THE UNIT ON for a couple of hours. Disconnecting the power and running the car for a couple of minutes down the road with the ac on fixed it immediately. Several other STI owners have had similar occurrences and corrected the Service Required message in a similar manner.

Instead of condemning the STI in general you should address your particular problem with Beltronics. Not every unit that leaves a production line is perfect no matter what the price. *****ing and moaning about it on this forum won't correct YOUR difficulty.

It seems that Bel has some quality controling problems. It looks like every STI coming out of the shop has different problems/performance :?
