I was out on the first leg of a short round trip and I came across the OPP (Muskoka) setting up a laser trap targeting cars traveling in the opposit direction. There were three cars (hidden). When I drove past initially (setting up), I got a K as I passed, and for about 100 meters after, the cars.
I remembered where they were and rode the limit for the return trip.
I had a minivan 200 feet in front of me and the OPP were on the shoulder in the middle of a long straight with a tripod mounted lidar.
My STi screamed laser about 700m away from the cops and kept screaming until I was about 200m away from them. Either they kept watching me or they couldnt get lock, or initially I picked up scatter from the van in front and then they moved on to me. The STi went off for probably 20 seconds.
Then the K showed up again and it held for probably 500m as I passed the police.
Im pretty sure that if I didnt know where they were, that I could have avoided a speeding ticket. Whether or not they would have pulled me over for suspician of an RD is another thing, but I believe that I got sufficient warning to slow down, if the laser moving on happened when they got a speed reading.
I am still far from convinced that RDs save you. I believe not being dumb and paying attention have the biggest roles, but I do like funky electronics and the STi continues to be that.
