Default AutoScan or Hwy or No X City

    Hello to everyone.

Was really interested in who is using Autoscan most of the time on their RD as the Beltronics manual recommends.

Here is my take and questions on this computer feature...are we ready to put our trust in it? For me not yet unless some who is using it most of the time can convince me other wise. Just wanted to see what others think of this feature.

As I understand it AutoScan in the Vector Rd's is a computer that does the thinking for you. Filtering out those unwanted false signals. But whos to say that some of those unwanted false signals that Autoscan filters out are not the real thing....that would equal a ticket in my thinking. Lets say Autoscan filters out a Ka signal that is an instant on radar up and around a corner but it only gets a one or two bars on the graph once or at least in its internal brain. Ok it might think its a false signal and therefore filters it out....hmmm...which means you don't hear it or see it. Next thing you know it turns out to be the real thing and you missed it...... its a ticket in my book of thinking on this feature.

I have always used Highway mode on all my previous Beltronics Rd's almost all the time and feel that I can best determine if it is a true false signal or not. But since it is a new feature for me and my new RD wanted to see if I good get some real detail feed back from the pro's out here on this great information forum.

Now I also understand that if I program my vector for no X and run my unit in City mode only, all the time that it will maintaine full sensitivity on all other bands... K and Ka. This would mean that with no x selected in City mode that it would be the same as running it in highway mode as far as K and Ka performance is concern with X band turn off completely without affecting K and Ka. Can anyone verifiy that this wholes true. Or do you get a little less distance on K and Ka but the same performace being that performance and distance are different in application on the vector in real world driving and radar detection. Hope this makes some sense to you real pro's out there.

Good feed back on this would be very well received. So thanks for comments on this topic.

I wonder if it would be interesting to see via a poll just how many Beltronics users are running their RD's in the default recommended AutoScan mode?

Sometimes it is the best use of features that are provided by the RD and how good the operator gets to becoming accustomed to using them to there full potential that keeps a ticket away from you.

    Thanks

I have the 8500 X50, and I use the "auto" mode all the time when I am in the city. I do not have any problems with it. It does help reduce false alerts, and I still get tons of advance warning on real threats.

auto mode only affects x-band, all other bands (k,Ka)has full sensitivity. However the bel Sti is an exception, ive read the manual and it states that in city mode it also affects K-band not only x band like the previous rd's.

Personally i like to have FULL sensitivity across the whole board, I can decipher false from threat myself.......I just like it that way, so I keep it in Highway........my 2 cents

WRC why then have City mode and the ability to reduce senitivity by programing it to low X or No X if Autoscan does the the same thing and only affects X and not K or Ka? So what is Beltronics try to provide here with this feature? Seems that they are almost duplicating a RD function and calling it a New Feature.

I used to run mine in LoX but I felt I was losing sensitivity in Ka and K bands. Maybe just in my mind. I run in Highway mode all the time now. Like Arashi666 said, I can decipher the real threats from the falses on my own.

ok autoscan mode autmotically adjust sensitivity on the fly, if there are a lot of falses in the area it reduces sensitivity a lot, if you drive on the highway and it doesn't detect x-band falses in a while it wil AUTOmatically adjust to a higher sensitivity. Hope this helps

I wish STi should have an selectable Sensitivity mode City No X/K
Here in Finland in the city You don't meet with K anymore. Also on Highway, 95% of threaths are Ka. Seldom the local police an smaller town uses K band.

Now switching K on and off through set up is too difficult and the "false" K alerts from door openers etc are annoying.

I want to use K when going country side, more annoying would be getting ticket from a county police with old Kustom HR-12 ops:

Have tested my Bel 995 in Highway mode and Autoscan against my Kustom HR -12 k band and Stalker Ka hand held radar guns but have found no difference in performance. Only thing have noticed is X band range is effected.
