Default Belelectronics STI use in Toronto, Ontario

I drive the 401, DVP and 400 in the GTA core on a daily basis. I have a Escort X50 but with it being detected at over 1500 feet I have stopped.

If I was to upgrade to the STI, it would be undectable to RDDs but it would be visable to OPP officers. I could run direct line to my visor clip but that would make it off centre and really high. My understanding is high is good for long range rader but poor for laser. Would it being off centre make is not perform as well.

Or, I could direct wire it low (just above my wipers for concealment). Would this really decrease my warnings to radar. In Toronto the city police only use K band (from my experience) and I have never seen Ka used except when I drive in the US.

Any comments on how to descretly intall my STI to get optimum k, ka, and laser detection and where? I will do the Veil coating. Lasar jammers can be detected by police b/c it will flash an error code????

    Thanks for all the help.

Welcome to the board. Hardwire install is a must. I mount high using the visor to hide the unit. There's no consensus on the high/low mount for laser it really varies by situation so I wouldnt sweat that one. In fact Valentine says mounting behind the tint strip can improve sensitivity in bright sunny days dpending on the strip

I am acquiring a laser jammer used correctly the Leos wont detect it. Theres lots of posts on how. Lidar throws error codes all the time so the cops are used to seeing them. The AL\LPP unit is the number one unit that throws very few codes. Its so good you really dont need to use Veil. But its pricey and you have to order internationally.

TO uses alot of laser. The stealth traffic cars tend to be Ka.

    Depends of your budget :

    Sti + Veil + M-20

    Sti + AL8 Single Head

    Sti + Al8 Dual

Depends your style of driving :

    low over psl : 5 to 10 %

    medium over : 10 to 25 %

    heavy over :25 % +

Having any jammer = place your Sti anywhere in the car (rf bounces easily) as long it is fastly removed and well hidden from sharp eyes = absolutely no suspect wires in sight ...

My philosophy = better loose some bit of range than an Sti...

Default Can you recommend any shops that will install

Thanks for the welcome to the forum. I have been monitoring this site for sometime now. I came back from a road trip to Myrtle beach and my esxort X50 did really well, but triggered a lot of laser false alarms.

I got one ticket in the state of VA, from my own fault. I detected the Ka band and instead of hitting the breaks hard I spent more effort unplugging my RD.

I will look into the active laser jammers as you suggested and read the other forums.

Can anyone here recommend any shops that will run the hardware for the RD and ask no questions, or from your experience most performance shops (black knights friendly) won't really care?

To much laser in Torono. I see it mostly on the 407, 400 north of Major Mac, and anywhere downtown but 80% of time on Bloor St, approaching the DVP on-ramp.

hard wiring is so very very very easy I wouldn't worry about finding a shop. Besides the fewer that know the better. People have a way of talking. When you get the unit do a search on here and theres a post on how to install or pm me.

It's pretty easy to do yourself. Lots of posts on the forum. What kind of car do you own? If you do a search there may be a model specific post already or one of the other members can tell you how to unclip stuff in the interior to run the wire through.

Most just stick the power (red) into one of the fuses in your fuse box. radio, horn etc. The ground just attaches to any metal screw in the car.

The power cord runs more than RDs ie the G timer from Escort in case anyone asks you what its for.

As a last resort you can PM me and I'll try not to blow your car up

    Default 2006 Mazda 3Gt

I drive a 2006 Mazda 3GT silver. Have it modified to have HID lights in lieu of the stock halogens.
