Bel STi XR - K-Band Police Car Range

Hey guys,

Thought I would share last nights experience and 'K-BAND' range with a WA Police Traffic car as I approached from the rear with the Police car pulled over during a traffic stop.

Check out the map, pretty impressive range, considering this is in the middle of heavy suburbia, alot of trees, houses, cars and bends etc.

I estimate by using the distance scale on the map, to be approximately 2.5km's at the point where I lost the signal, and that is from the rear!

As you know, the STi does not have any radar antenna horn to the rear like the V1, so it was quite impressive.

I'm guessing you got the points down by guessing the location based on road?

Yes this is in my local area, so its a very common road for me to drive down at least twice a day, I can pretty much pinpoint the locations as per the alerts on the map.

For local readers - Location is Morley Drive (East), Morley. with signal loss approximately 100m after passing Tonkin Highway intersection.

Yes the STi is very very good with K-band cop car. Was it one of those with bright orange strips police hwy petrol car?

Nah mate, just a local traffic commodore sedan.

Sounds like your as impressed as I am with our new Bel STi XR's. The bloody things are built like bulletproof TANKS!!!

Makes my X50 & RX65's feel like plastic toys! lol

yep, I came accross a similar situation with my STi, I also got similar range from behind...I was equally impressed!

I must say, I never bothered to test exact the range on K-band against the vehicle mounted K-band Decatur Genesis II Select radar with my STi as the detection range is so huge anyway. I would say though that the detection range on with my STi seems to be similar to fastnfurious80's experience above.
