How much better are the best?
Hi guys. I'm new to this radar thing but I've been reading all over the forums trying to educate myself. I recently bought my first radar detector, a Cobra 9630. After I bought it, I found these forums and read all the terrible reviews about Cobra so I decided I should send it back and get a better detector. It sounds like the rx65 or the x50 would be the best detectors out there for me, but I really can't justify spending $300+ on a radar detector when there is still a chance I could get tagged by laser and get a ticket. And I definately can't afford a RD and a jammer. So I'd really like to know, how much better are the best? I've been looking at the Bel 895 and it seems like a good deal. But I don't want to get it if it won't save me from radar but something like the x50 could have. I go to college and live 450 miles from home. Driving the speed limit takes me 7 hours, so it would be nice to be able to go a little faster without having to worry about blindly coming around a corner and there's a cop waiting for me. So would a $150 Bel 895 (or similar model, i'm open for suggestions) be good enough. Thanks.
OH. and one more thing, I know this is going to make me look stupid, but what does LEO stand for?
i recommend getting the x50 over the rx65 unless Ka is a big threat where you live. It is easy to use and has cool exp meter, and for laser protection forget about it, you only get saved if you can pick-up scatter (never happened to me)
you can get a X50 red display for 299 and they really are worth the more money....LEO stands for Law Enforcement Officer
and welcome to the forums, what part of Texas are you in and i can tell you what type of radar and how much laser is in that area.
Thanks for the replies. I travel between College Station and Lubbock. I also head up to Dallas sometimes.
If you aren't familiar with where College Station or Lubbock are. College Station is about 90 miles north of Houston, and Lubbock is in West Texas right below the panhandle.
So would yall think it would be a waste if i got the 895?
no it wouldnt be a waste but if you want to do 10-15 over the PSL(posted speed limit) your going to want a top 3. you get what you pay for. the 895 is good and will work for like 5 over but in Texas we got alot of instant on and laser is becoming popular.
IMO(in my opinion)
V1=best laser detection
rx65=best Ka detection
X50=a mix of the V1 and rx65
Dont forget the V995, its right up there in detection range of the top 3. The top 3 is just a small notch above the V995 but that is why they are the Top 3, they are the best of the best. The top 3 have just alittle bit of better filtering and you have the top 3 able to keep track of multi-bogies where the V995 can only track the strongest signal, I only need 1 signal and knowing my area to know its a true signal ( I use "SPEC" mode), but I'm still careful. You cant go wrong with those but the V995 is a great package and very, very close to the Top 3 for alot less $$$. I'm waiting for the new Escort Passport or even the new Valentine RD , whenever it comes out, so for right now I'll stick with my V995 with a 5 mile K band detection of a leo on my way to work.
You should make it 4, as in Top 4... the STI my friend :wink:
