Default Anyone want to help this Texan decide?

I'm about to purchase my first real radar detector. (I briefly had a Cobra, but returned it). I have it narrowed down to the rx65 or the x50. I'm probably going to get the x50, but I decided to run a poll on the Beltronics forum just incase there are any rx65 users out there that will change my mind.

Please don't just vote for your favorite detector, I'm trying to find the one that best suits ME. So here is a little info on me that I'd like yall to consider:

I live in Texas, and for those of you familiar with the state, I travel on I20, I35, I45, hw6, and hw84. On a fairly regular basis I will travel 450 miles between Central and West Texas. I don't know what kind of radar is used around there, but I'm sure some of yall do. And I don't know if it matters, but I drive a full sized pickup truck.

    Thanks

ok your deffinatly going to want to go with a X50, ive personally picked up laser scatter on I-20, and with a truck your going to want the one with best laser detection and out of those two its the X50

I commute between Lubbock and Dallas for school, and my X50 works fine. But you really cannot go wrong with an RX65 or an X50.

I currently have a V1 but wouldn't hesitate to go back to my blue baby!

Def go with the X50 laser detection is a plus, but you cant beat the range on it..... and when i had the RX65, the X50 made it seem like a Cobra

I'm voting for RX65 because of the area you described- you will run into more highway patrol than anything. They exlusively use Ka for radar, though they have been reported to use laser as well.

I had to make the same choice as you did a few months ago. I ended up going with the Rx65 because of the Ka factor. Thats what I hit the most, so that's what i'm concerned about. K band is still a boss though. I had over two miles warning on instant on this morning, and I've had a mile and a half warning of instant on over two hills and around a curve.

Laser detection, from what I hear, stinks, but, that isn't a factor for me as I have a jammer... even if I didn't have a jammer- I wouldn't count on catching scatter with any detector (i know it happens but its rare) so I would really still go for the detector that would protect me best against Ka.

Honestly though... when you get down to it, it's just bragging rights. EITHER of the two will cover you against radar- you MIGHT be able to avoid a laser ticket in the rare chance that you MIGHT get some scatter with the x50- so I would let radar/features be your deciding factor and get a jammer. The x50 DOES have a kick ass expert meter (compared to the rx65's near pointless threat display) but the RX65 mounts much better than the x50 due to its size. I got to the point of almost ripping my hair out because of the x50's rattling against the windsheild. The RX65 is also louder and brighter, but some people like the x50's tones more.

Get either. You won't be disappointed.

    I have owned both the Rx-65 Rev 3.6 & 6.1 / Escort x50 rev 5 & 6

My conclusion is that the x50 seemed to have more attraction to me seeing that it could display 2 simantanios "k-band", 2"ka-band"

Rx-65 can only sow one of each. Not good where in my city most officers use k-band and they hide behind the local banks which also produce a k-band source. With the rx-65 iwould have never known there was another k-band source hiding just around the building. Also for some reason the rx-65 ka-band range never seemed to impress me compared to the x50. IMO

The reason I went with the RX65 is because of the threat display. If you use the RX65 you will see for example K2, Ka3 instead of with the x50 seeing Kll kalll. I would rather see X4 than Xllll. Just my gut feeling.

your intention is good, Cactus... but i think you're just a little off with the threat display thing. the rx65 threat display displays the band detected- only one of each possible- and its strength in the form of a number. the x50, on the other hand, displays the band detected- up to 4 x, and 2 each of k and ka, and then for each threat, there is a strength bar. x4 isn't the same as xllll, it'd be the same as x with a bar about halfway full. ka l would show as ka9 on the rx65... hope this clears things up.
