Any tips for avoiding tickets with this model in PA? (The list of bands for each state has instant on K first ) Just try and have a rabbit? They can't really pick you out of the crowd unless they can see you though right, and if they see me, I can probably see them right? I'm mostly worried about the ones I can't see since I'll still use my eyes.

Default Bel Express 795

How can you tell if you have a good one? Mine doesn't false much even though I have city turned off. Have not tried it on the highway/interstate yet. What is a bad one like?

proud NMA member-why do you own the 795 when you have so many good/epensive RDs?

I just bought mine a week ago at Circuit City for $64 + tax. Hate to return it and spend more but don't want to be stuck with it after the 30 days. Will use it only on interstate couple of times a month for 300 mile round trip.

Should I trade it in for a whistler 73, 58 or 1793-is Ku band coming to US?

Suggestions?

Of all the detectors you listed, I think the 795 is a good choice, no need to trade it in for something else. Although its performance is way below that of the high-end detectors, it will still offer you some level of protection, and is definitely better than nothing.

Honestly, I don't think there are necessarily "good ones" and "bad ones". Every radar encounter is different, and people might experience situations that lead them to question whether their detector is performing well. For example, if someone is headed toward the cop and the radar is aimed right at them, then they'll have very good range. But in some situations, people might experience a situation where the radar isn't aimed right at them, and it seems like the range is very poor, when in fact it is just the situation.

Hey guys I just purchased one of these, and went by a speed sign and it blinked like it was a instant on (pulse) real fast then just shut off and didn't come back on as I got closer. After I hit some buttons and nothing worked until I unplugged it then plugged it back in. Is this just a freak occurance or do you think it's a defective one? If I can get a 925 instead should I do that, or swap this 795 for another one? Thanks guys!

Default I bought

I bought the 795 mostly for testing purposes and that's it. I took it out today and tested it while I made deliveries. I like my other units as well. Hlxdrummer, I had my 795 act up a bit today but unplugging it and plugging it back in helps. For some reason, I went to hit a couple of the buttons on the 795, and nothing. So I did a system reset, (holding in all 3 of the top buttons w/ one hand, and plugging in the cord w/ the other). The system reset really helps when a detector is "acting" up.

Thanks! I heard of the reset but figured it was a little button you need to hit with a pencil or something like many devices but didn't see one. I'll give that a try tomorrow. I got it Wensday and I heard all the stories of the horrible quality and all and got kind of worried. I've been hoping to pass a sign/cop so bad I wanna see my $100 work lol Thanks though!

My mother has a 925 and she's pretty happy with it. Seems like the quality control on the 795 is pretty lacking. Plus, the 925 is a boatload louder and personally, I think the display is better, so it might be a good option.

I have a 795 and get very good results.
at www.radartest.com they called it the best detector under $99.
They tested it to have 28,000 foot range on X and K bands and 27,560 ft on Ka.
The only negative reports I hear are from people who only sell the expensive detectors.
I am an actual electronics tech and since I am not trying to sell you something I just tell it like it is.

rfengineer-how long have you had your 795 and what has been your experience with it, especially on the highways/interstates?

When you say you get very good results, what exactly do you mean?
