Sorry if it's a tired issue, but I've been having some problems with my RX65 since I purchased it about 7 months ago.
Half the time it works great -- I get alerts far ahead of the actual patrol car, in the 30 - 45 second range, plenty of time, no sweat.
However, driving through a local rural town (at night) a couple months back, I was about to leave town and sped up a bit. All of a sudden the RX-65 wakes up - K band with a 9 for signal strength. Pow, I have a ticket for 43 in a 30 (I was within visible distance of the Speed Limit - 40 sign when I pulled over and stopped), and ZERO warning before it jumped to K9. The cop was RIGHT in front of me! I saw him before the RD went off, but still too late. I was less than 50 feet from the unit when it finally went off.
Now, I'm aware that the Rx65 isn't as effective against K-bands, but it should give me SOME warning, right? This isn't the only time, either. It's become so much of a nuisance that I find it almost useless to turn on the RD now, because it can go from nothing to K-8 or K-9 in a split second, no chance of reaction. I can't risk piling up tickets on the two or three times a month that it just miffs the unit.
Is this a firmware problem potentially, or did I just get a bad detector? I'm hesistant to say that, because usually it gives a great advanced warning, even with K-band.
I drive a 1993 Ford Escort GT, a 2005 Ford F-150 FX4, and a 2000 Mustang GT Convertible. I use a mid-high mount.
Thanks in advance.
