Default Unautorized reseller purchase from eBay - am I screwed?

Hey guys, I stupidly purchased my RX65 off eBay from a user (bondb17) out of Florida. I didn't read this forum before the purchase nor the ebay page closely enough and now realize my 2 month old RX65 had the serial number removed and has no factory warranty!

I have noticed it operating erratically - Highway mode sensitivity is poor, Laser does not work (I received 2 direct hits from Lidar guns with no detection!).

I am trying to return the unit to seller, but I have a feeling the guy is going to make me keep the detector or just exchange it for another black market detector.

Other than making fun of me, does anyone have experience dealing with unauthorized purchases and the problems they have encountered? Any suggestions (aside from throwing it out) are appreciated.

Just hope that the buyer has some sort of "warranty" program of his own (aka, exchanging it for another one). At least you'll have something that hopefully works for now.

Sometimes there are pretty decent buyers on E-bay. It's not all bad. The thing is that you won't be able to get full warranty from Bel.

    Good luck

I also hope that you paid with paypal. . . and/or a credit card.

    1) Try emailing the seller and ask if he/she is willing to exchange for you.

    2) Start a dispute via paypal for a item received in non-satisfactory condition.

    3) If the seller is unwilling to help - wait a few days and escalate it to a claim.

    4) If you lose that call your credit card company and tel them you'd like to chargeback a purchase.(you'll most likely win this one w/o any hassle)

This is all going on the fact that the auction didn't mention it has no serial number. If it did, than I gues - lesson learned.

I read his ebay listing and I would try and contact him for an exchange. He claims he sells only new units and exchanges with only new units so give it a try. 100% positive feedback also. Let us know what happens.

I decided to roll the dice and purchased my RX65 off of eBay. It's been around a year and a half now; no problems what so ever. Feels as though I bought it from Roy. My advise, be smart; email the seller and ask him question's as well as check his rating. You can even email a user off of his rating list that purchased the same unit. Hopes this boosts up your confidence a little.

Well, the seller is a stand up guy. He said he would take it back and give me a refund. He offered to exchange it for a different RX65 or even an Escort or Valentine One (with upcharge).

I think at this point I will return it for the refund and buy it from authorized source.

I bought my STi from eBay, but it had the serial number on it.
When the unit died a few days after I got it, Beltronics repaired it for free.
All they wanted was the serial # off the unit.

With no serial, I think you'd be out of luck.
However, Beltronics will repair the unit if its out of warranty, and their service is not that expensive.

I bought my first Sti from Pilot, got a "Service Required" in first 10 miles. Went to another Pilot, exchanged for another, it went 200 miles before "Service Required". It seems they have older stock due to low sales. I returned the unit to Pilot. I bought my current Sti from Roy with the LATEST updates. I highly recommend you buy from Roy.... Latest updates, quick shipping, helps support the site.
