Default RX65 settings for California, please

    Hello,

Just got an RX65 from who other than Radar Roy ...

I was wondering for Southern and Northern California:

    - X band detection off or just use City Mode STD or LowX?
    - SWS off?

Any other tweaks for optimal performance in California?

    Thank you for you help.

    Welcome!

For SC I would turn X band OFF altoghether as it isn't used by the CHP.
Also, turn SWS OFF as it also isn't used either.

Put KA on USA to improve performance slightly. If K band is used then keep it on otherwise turn it OFF as well.

    Hope this helps

    Thank you for your reply.

Why isn't Ka in USA mode for units sold in the US?

How do I know if K is used or not?

This is my first radar detector, I have no experience with one.

And I hope the RX65 was a good choice, reading about the quality issues Beltronics seems to have I'm starting to have buyer's remorse already and thinking about the Passport x50 ...

That is just the way it is programmed at the factory I guess.

Since this is your first RD I suggest that you leave K band on and take them seriously. Eventually over some time you will know your non-chp spots (grocery store doors and such) if you come across a K band on the highway with a LEO (sherriff) or CHP on the side then you know K band is used, but I am betting it isn't.

The 65 is excellent on KA band from my 6 months with it. I prefer the V1 myself but that aside the 65 is a great unit. If K band is a threat it does filter K band quite a bit. I made a video that I will be posting on MY site ( NOT HERE) showing the difference on K band between the V1, 65, and the 9500i I recently returned.

But for now leave it on until you can be certain it isn't used for speeding tickets

    Hope this helps

In California you can turn X and POP off. Neither is used here.

K is definitely used. CHP favor Laser and Ka, but I've seen the rare K from them. City cops do often use K.

Is there an advantage to turning OFF a band besides avoiding false alarms? e.g. will the other band detections that are ON work better? thanks.

In California atleast soutern california, KA is used most widely by LEO's and CHP and stuff, and K band is used by radar signs, speed signs that kind of stuff, i've yet to see K used by a LEO, but i keep my K on because it always livens up my drive to hear it beep and come around a corner and there's a speed sign. :]
