RX 65 - Just got busted
So I was jsut driving along here in Mississauga, ON minding my own business when I notice an undercover sitting at the lights next to me, and the cop is staring me down hard. This is nothing too unusual as I drive a car that attracts some attention usually, but he keeps looking at his gear and then at me. I reach down and unplug the RX casually as though I'm playing with the gear shifter, but he keeps the death stare on. As soon as wel leave the light the cherries come on and it's game over. He tells me he knows I've got the detector and asks me to give it up willingly or he'll search the car.
I didn't have a choice but to hand him the unit. I got a $170 ticket for posession of the device. No doubt he pocketed the damn thing too. So now I'm out roughly $550 altogether for the detector and the ticket.
I have to say, in Canada, that box hasn't done a damn thing for me. Only in the states when I've travelled through Michigan or New York has it ever light up with anything meaningful.
This was my first detector and I'm pretty dissillusioned about the whole thing. It didn't even chirp as he was sitting right next to me.

Just shell out the $$$ and buy Roy Zegers V1.
-
Why did you hand it over? Let him search! Put it on your person he can't search there!
Should have turned off the bugger when you saw the cop. It's kinda like going up to a cop and blowing past at 200km/h it isn't smart!

I turned it off as soon as I realized he was sitting next to me (it was a blacked out undercover). I'm usually really quick on the draw with that though. The fact that it gave me 0 indication that he was even there dissapoints me a lot.
I'm interested to see the results of the V1 mod, but at the same time I'm not in a hurry to lose another $500+
I bought the RX65 because it was supposed to be the ultimate box. Apparently not.

Sorry to hear about that. This is the second Spectre encounter posted today, except the other one ended better. All I can say is don't buy one until one of the manufacturers produces a decent model with real RDD immunity. The V1 produced by Roy et al does the trick but they have to modify each one by hand which drives the price way up. ($1800 AUD?) The other option is to install a Bel remote unit along with the external waveguide filter. (Kills X and Ku detection, though.)

Can you provide me with a link with info on this?
X and Ku aren't in use here in Canada. X was 100% false alerts on the RX65 and I just disabled it.
I see Cobra advertising Spectre detection, but I've always thought of their products as sort of Dodgy and second rate..
I think you may be correct, time to sit on my hands until someone comes out with a proper solution.

Cobra figured out Spectre I immunity, but those have all been upgraded to Spectre III. They used the old method of shifting the LO to a new frequency that was out of the RDD's range, and the RDD manufacturers had a patch nearly immediately. That kind of solution is a waste of time. Eliminating all emissions is the only permanent solution that will work for everyone.
I can't remember what site has those waveguides. It's a european site. If I come across it I'll post it. Someone else might know off-hand.

Since it'll probably be a while before someone comes out with a decent Spectre-proof RD that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, perhaps you should keep a cheap detector handy so when you get pulled over, you just hand over the cheapy and keep the good one.
Sure it'll cost you, but it's better to lose a $50 detector than a $300 one.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane! If speed kills, how come I'm still alive? Active Countermeasures: V1 3.858, Escort Redline, Beltronics STi-R+, LI Dual 7.1x CPU/8.7 Heads (front)

170...not bad considering some parts of the world charge 1100 for being busted with a RD.
Roy has been speaking of brand X that is spectre proof but there was a delay in the release. Keep your eyes peeled...i dont think it is too far away.

I assume it was Peel Regional Police that got you.
That Sucks.
The Spectre is big in Ontario.
When you see a Cop shut off that RD Immediately
You should have stashed the RD on your person, let him search the car.
If you were in a built up area especially, the Spectre falses alot.
Personally I recommend a Cordless up here.....easier to hide.....
