Well, got my RX65 the other day from Roy. I wanted to replace my aging 8500 (not the x50) with something new, and the RX65 got all good reviews after reading these forums, Roy's page, and other reviews on the net.
Overall, I'm happy that it's smaller than the 8500, just as easy to use, and seems like it is a better build quality. The programming was just as easy as the 8500, so that made me happy. I'm almost positive that we have POP here, so that was something that I wanted when choosing a new RD.
The things that disappoint me about this radar detector are:
1. No multi tracking of threats of the same band. This was a huge advantage with the 8500 as cops love to sit near K sources in my city, and seeing two threats by a normally 1 stationary was really nice. I probably would have bought an x50 had I known this, but I didn't read hard enough! :P I guess if they're shooting my way, I would pick up the band a lot sooner, so I will have to take that into consideration from now on. I'm definitely keeping it in the advanced mode just because cops 15 miles away use Ka and K.
2. Overall, the K detection seems much much worse in the RX65 compared to my 8500. I don't have a problem that it didn't pick up Wal-Green's from super far, but I drove past a cop who had his radar on while driving, and I didn't pick him up very far at all. Maybe 1/8 mile at most. It came in faint (1-2) for 2 seconds, then it was at 7-8 before I knew it, and the cop was right there. Strange... This detector is mounted in the same spot my 8500 was, a few inches from the bottom per Roy's recommendations.
I'm going on 450+ mile trip from SE Wisconsin to NE Ohio, so I'll test the two side-by-side to see if it was just a fluke with the cops or not. Let alone, I'll hopefully get to see the superior detection of the RX65!
What is even recommended, or more rather, what do you guys run in the city. H, C, or A?
