Default Vector 975R False Alarm Problems

About a month ago, I purchased a Bel Vector 975R and installed it in my car. I was extremely satisfied with the detector for the first 2-3 weeks. I was beginning to learn where the false signals were emitted during my daily commute and was getting used to the detector's warnings.

The past week or so, the detector has been going a little crazy. In areas that I never had false signals in before, the detector will suddenly show full signal (usually on the X band but every once in a while, on K band). After a few seconds, it will drop down to one or two LED's for signal strength, then back up to 4, then down to one, etc. It just keeps bouncing around for a while, then quiets down. Seemingly without warning, it will do it again.

I always slow down when this happens because I don't want to miss a real signal when this is happening.

Has anyone else had this same experience or have any ideas how I can fix it.

Some people were reporting that behavior, when they were using
cell-phone in the car.It is a fact that BEL975 LR is sensitive around
cell-phones(GSMs).Bel966 EVO has built-in chip to prevent
    GSM interference.
The next time your RD goes "crazy"turn it off,and back on again!

With the power off, hold down the mode and brightness buttons and then press the power button to power up the RD again. If the RD resets correctly, you will then very briefly see a display of the firmware/software version of your RD.

If that doesn't resolve the problem then the RD will have to go back to Bel. If you bought the RD from a source such as an internet auction site or from a non-authorized Bel dealer, then you might want to fix it yourself as the problem may simply be that one or more of the screws which attach the radar horn the the circuit board may be loose. See this thread where I have posted pictures and instructions on how to properly open up your Bel V9XX or RX-55/RX-65 detector:

After you have the bottom cover off, simply check to make sure that the visible screws on the circuit board are all moderately tight, but not overly tight as you do not want to overtighten them and crack the circuit board! If this doesn't resolve the problem, then your RD definitely has to go back to Bel.

That is a good point, when I got a new phone which was a CDMA it set off my Bel 960 on X band, what I did was set my detector to city X, and that helped, but of course lost range on X band which is stilled used alot in NJ.

I haven't got a new phone and using my phone doesn't cause the detector to go off. It goes off at seemingly random increments. I tried resetting it, but I still get the random alerts. I bought it off Amazon.com. Will Beltronics warrenty my detector since I bought through Amazon, or should I contact Amazon about selling me a faulty detector?

Amazon IS NOT an authorized beltronics reseller. Sorry. Next time you should make sure you buy from an authorized reseller so you can get the warranty.

Your detector is defective. You should contact Electronica Direct, that's where you bought it from(most likely), via Amazon's website. According to the supplier the unit is warranted.

You can have a look if you're detector is grounded good enough.

915 and 975 have got GSM problems, and a good ground is very important.

Well, I contacted Amazon and they are giving me a full refund on the detector. Now I am wondering if I should get the same Bel Vector 975R remote detector again or if I should look at a different remote detector.
