Default R.I.P Vector LR... Hello STi Driver

After a solid 4 years without 1 ticket with my Vector LR, I'm placing it under retirement.

I did plenty of reading and research and feel I completed my homework. The STi driver became by choice of detector over all others including the V1, Rx65, and Escort models.

The #1 reason for the STi Driver was full immunity from Spectre Radar. I have been pulled over a few times while driving the speed limit, detector going off (hidden from view), and the reasons for the pull over were bull-crap reasons. Basically they detected my detector and just wanted to give me a hard time. I feel this practice is increasing, thus the reason for going stealth.

The 2nd reason for the STi is from all the test performed by various organizations, including GOL and others. Time and time again the test results fit my driving habits and needs. The STi passed these test over and over.

3rd reason is familiarity with the Bel products. Just yesterday my Vector LR picked up a rear hit 3/4 miles back. I wont even get into how well it performs with front hits. I can only imagine the STi driver performing better with it dual antenna design.

This web site has been an excellent source of research and guidance. I drive 55 minutes one way into work each day and drive into some of the worst speed traps around. I get hit once a day GUARANTEED by a radar and cant afford second best. Over the hill detection, around the corner detection, and Instant On are the #1 driving conditions I put up with every single day.

Hopefully by the end of this week the STi Driver will be sliding my Vector LR into retirement (hard decision because of reliability) but its time for the best.

Great web site and hope to contribute.

Most likely you won't be disappointed. The STi is an excellent radar detector.

Where are you located Buford? VA, DC, or Canada, or outside the USA? Inside the USA RDs are legal in 49 states so Spectre stealth is irrelevant, but the STi is a fine detector nonetheless.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

I know the RD is legal in my state, but that does not mean I cant get pulled over for other bull crap reasons. Spectre detecting my detector and the cop then trying to find a stupid reason to pull me over (kinda like a legal way to harass me.) Its happened 4x but no more!!

What state are you in? Most states don't have Spectres, and the few that do (Texas for example) only use them to look for RDs in commercial vehicles.

Also, what do you drive? Maybe it's a cop magnet?

Lastly, where you you mount your RD? If it's clearly visible on your windshield, it won't matter if it's an STi or not.

I live in Indiana where some of the smallest farm towns #1 source of income is pulling drivers over and giving them tickets. Purchasing a high end Spectre is a drop in the bucket for these small towns.

My detector is hidden from view in my Volkswagen TDI Jetta (42MPG by the way)

I invite you sometime to drive through these small towns in Indiana with your detector hidden from view. Getting pulled over because you "seemed to swerve" or your front headlight is out of alignment, sucks when you know damn well what they are really pulling you over for.

Welcome to the forum. I live in Indiana too. What you say about the small farm towns is true. But there are some suburban Indianapolis towns that are just as bad or even worse.

As far as Spectres, I have not seen any yet. However that does not mean they don't exist here. I have seen VG-2 though in some Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Enforcement Vehicles. I think most of the time the local yokels will just I/O you and see if you brake rapidly.

Every time I see that screen name I think of a Pontiac LeMans with flashing blue lights and the roof missing LOL! When I had my TA the cops would stare in amazement as I drove by their I/O traps at the PSL!

    Default welcome

Welcome to the board BTJ. The Bel STi is a great performer. Hope you enjoy your purchase. Yesterday, while using the STi in the big truck, I picked up a k band speed sign over a mile away.
