Hello everyone. Just wanted to say that I've lurked RD.net for a long time, but decided to register because I've had a couple of questions.
I upgraded from a pro-58 (seemed like it was losing its touch) to an rx65.
I've had 2-3 saves on the pro-58, albeit two of them were at very close range on highway.
My RX65 saved me the other day doing 10-15 over PSL in a very small town that has no police dept. Anyways, there was a small hill, enough to where you can't see the other cars coming over. I got a KA alert (which was obviously real) and reduced my speed. Sure enough, sheriff was over the hill driving the opposite direction. The problem is, I estimate it was no more than .2 miles (and the road's roughly .7 miles long) if he had constant on. I was roughly 200-400 ft away from the hill when I got the alert.
What I'd like to know is how my performance could be so bad, unless it's something I'm missing.
Another question: I was able to test my range on a LEO that was assisting a broke down car. Don't know the exact frequency (KA), but I was able to get .7 miles detection on the LEO.
Is this acceptable range?
It's a 2 mile stretch of road in a shallow valley where you can easily see everything (cop was pretty much in the middle of it). I got .8 mile range when coming from the opposite direction, this time with a car and a tow truck in from of the LEO.
I also get a 1 mile blip of K from K-Mart atop a hill going into a valley. It's only until I get about .4 miles away out of the valley do I get X/K alert (when coming just into sight).
Baffles me when people say that they've gotten 1+ mile detection on hilly roads
