I'm still running with my Bel 980, and it still performes very well. I have had to send to Bel once to get it fixed. About four months or so ago, I got a solid 2 mile alert on a stationary, constant on K band. The police officer had someone pulled over. Just the other day a got little over a mile detection range on a constant on Ka band. The officer was moving towards me. The only thing that I wish I had on my 980 that the 985 has it the frequency ID.
Outside Independence Hall when the Constitutional Convention of 1787 ended, Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Benjamin Franklin, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, "A republic, if you can keep it."

I have the 960 a sister unit the 985, mine has tech display, got it about 3 to 4 years ago maybe 2003 or 2004, still a great performer. well over a mile on Ka if not more, of course instant on is always an issue. 960 is good classic.

My bet is it was the 970LR. It is a good radar detector and not anywhere near as available, but not a whole lot different than the940, 960, and 985 which are, as mentioned, able to hang with the big boys of today.

I have a Bell Micro Eye XKR I bought at Zayres dept store back in my drinking partying and carrying on with multiple women days. 8)

Anyway, that sucker on X band is pretty darn good even compared to modern units today. Very small unit too.

    K band detection sucked.

I liked how it went from beeps or brasps to Clicks for the automute.

I remember feeling like I was freakin David Hasselhauf in Night Rider when I had that thing going on the dash and Aerosmith 8 track playing in the dash. Ooooh state of the art Bel detector!

I'm sorry officer, where again did you want me to sign?
