    Default Help with RX65 settings

Ok got my new RX-65 from Roy couple of weeks ago. My old radar dector was a Bel 980. I have been reading the forums and need your help.

Here is my problem, I live in a small country town (Indiana), but drive to the city (Indy) to work. The country police use X band and the downtown police uses all x, ka,k bands. Never seen my lazer go off execpt around the airport.

OK The new RX-65 never shuts up, it always saying X band alert. My 5 yr old Bel 980 never goes off this much. I tried the factory default and also tried "City Low" (remember our police here uses x band a lot) so I can't turn Xoff.

I also tried City, autoscan and still no luck

Any suggestion, Does the X50 have the same problem. One reason I didn't buy the V1 was because what I read about all the false alarms.

Should I just keep my Bel 980 and return the X65?

    Thanks,
    gta

The X50 is an option for sure as some people have stated that it has more tunnel vision than the RX65 so it should not pick up as many false signals. My RX65 is always on highway mode, and I can tell you that the thing picks up door openers that are incredible far off of the road. More than likely you are just not used to the wider field of view and much higher radar sensitivity on the RX65. If you are absolutely sure that laser is not in use you could try placing the unit in the seat beside you when around a lot of false signals. You can also play with mounting the unit lower or higher on the windshield too. The unit is also much more tolerable if you use the auto-mute feature too. If still unacceptable then you can sacrifice performance and go back to the 980 if you want to.

The X50 will likely act the same but according to tests it is less sensitive to X than the RX65. Since your area still uses X-band a lot, I would keep the RX65. If you do get the X50, you'll have the benefit of slightly less sensitivity (can't believe I'm saying that!) and the much nicer multi-threat display which will show up to 4 X-band sources. If you're driving through an area that consistently gives you 2 sources and this time it gets 3, you'll likely encounter a cop running radar.

I live in Indy as well and drive downtown as well, None of the IPD police use X band any more and most of the big counties such as Marion Hamilton and Hendricks or Johnson do not use X band either, I know some of the small towns still use x band so that is a bummer you have to keep X band enabled.

I have disabled my X band unless I know I am going to be driving thru some of the small towns as well.

I would say you are probably safe disabling x band when you get out of your town if they are using it.

With laser warning I only get that if I am going by the airport on I 70 west or east.
    I use a V1 and and a Pro 58 detectors.

My old Bel980 and Escort 5500 would always false laser by the airport while driving on 465 by the airport express way and on I-70 as well.

I would disable the X band when you are out of the town you live in and see how the RX65 behaves.

Thanks for the replys. I live on south side of Indy,

I had my dector located as high as it would go under the mirrow. So I took jbird advice and mounted it in the center of the windshield. Went out tonight and seems to work a little better. The big test is tomorrow's drive downtown.

If the their are hardly any X-band falses keep it on!!!! Many police stations are wising up to people shutting off X-band so they take their X-band guns out of storage and put them to use

This morning test went well, only had a few false alerts. Not many police out at 5am so tonight drive home (traveling down I65 south) should tell me more.

Tomorrow I will be out at the airport, so I will see if the Laser warning will go off.

Also when I go thru the settings and get to the BANDS settings mine always shows DFT and I keep trying to change it to MOD but it won't change. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks,
