Picked up a Bel v955
I bought a Bel v955 recently, it was in my target budget range, and from looking at the GOL tests, it performs very well for its price.
I was wondering if the v955 users have any tips or tricks for getting the most out of this radar detector, and I was wondering which mode do most of you prefer to leave it in for highway driving where K, Ka, and X are all used? Any POP or certain message systems to turn on or turn off?
Finally a RD owner!
I have the following settings/mods on my V955
POP off
SWS on
Power on set to Fast
No X band on City
Laser eye disabled.
Congrats on the purchase, I think you will enjoy it very much. I use SWS and POP off only because, at least in my area, I ran both of them for a week, the POP falsed a dozen times and pissed me off, and i NEVER received a SWS alert, so if Im not receiving any, I don't want the detector using its time to look for it. My suggestion would be to run it with everything on for about a week, if anything annoys you turn it off, if something appears useful, leave it on, the customizations are just that, to customize it to your driving area and style. Find out what you need.
For highway driving, do you guys usually use the Auto, or Highway?
ALWAYS highway. Even when im not on the highway, only time i use anything other then highway is when its WAY too chatty (which is ALMOST never) and when im dead smack downtown IN the city. Highway all the way baby.

I was just wondering since the 955 is built somewhat on the same platform as the RX65 does it have the same issues like "service recquired" or "selfcal"?
