I have been lurking on this board for nearly 2 years.
The information I have found on this site is invaluable.
I have been using RD's since the late 80's I was pulled over once in 89 and my car searched under the suspicion of having a radar detector.
At the time I was running a Uniden which was known as "The Card" since it was the same size as a credit card.
It was in my jeans pocket the whole time and they had no idea.
I recieved a Bel STI Driver as a birthday gift 6 weeks ago with a 2407 Mfg.date so it will need to go in for the 33.8 fix.
I live in Montreal,Quebec Canada but don't venture much into Ontario so there is no real big rush for me to have the 33.8 fix done immediately since I seem to get really good range on 34.7.
I do however travel the I87 corridor quite frequently and on my last 2 trips I recieved speeding tickets which cost me nearly $1000 in fines and a lawyer combined.
I have a few trips coming up which will be taking me south of the border in the next 2 months. After these 2 trips it will get sent in for the reflash.
My detector is hard wired high behind the dotted strip above the rear view mirror. I actually built in to the dome light assembly. I had to trim away the plastic used for the convertible roof swich since mine is a coupe and remove some of the casing which holds the pc board for the interior motion sensors but it all fits quite well.
I disassembled the external speaker and installed it in the drivers air vent far enough back that it is invisible. I put a 3/16" hole in duct and passed the wire through then used OEM style flexible wire loom to conceal it.
On my 300 mile drive home through New York State I did not see 1 LEO doing speed enforcement but I was getting very good range on K band hits from the emergency road signs. It can also sniff out any Home Depot, Walmart, or local grocery store electric door opener from a long way out.
A few weeks ago I took a 600mile round trip through Vermont and New Hampshire and I had 2 solid 1 mile saves on 34.7
Yesterday on a small 120 mile round trip into New York State I had 2 solid hits on 34.7 from New York State troopers.
The first one gave me aproximately 1/2 mile warning. He was in a low lying area behind a concrete underpass support totally obstructed from view till you were 400' from him.
The second was a solid 3/4 mile hit from a tree lined median. He saw me struggling trying to get my RD from its hiding place so that I could read the frequency.
I have not had 1 single legitimate radar hit in Quebec since Laser LTI is so widely used here. I went past 3 laser traps here but all were busy with other customers so I can't tell you how well my mounting location will fare.
