Yep most def.Heat will destroy a detector. You'll need to send it in to Bel.If it's within warranty they'll fix it for free.If not it's gonna cost you a lil doe.Call them first so they'll know that your sending it in and they give you a service #.

    yep...make that 2 of us...

At least V1 listen to the consumer!! Bel couldnt care less what we have to say...I mean who designs a detector with only 2 stages of ramp up....even an old RMR550 sounds better than my STi!

    Default Belscort Heat

When Roy went on his Belscort tour awhile back, he mentioned that as part of the manufacturing process, a portion of the detector went through an oven. I wonder what components were present during this process. (And how hot does it get?) To all: Please excuse me if any of the above info is incorrect or misleading in any way.

Definitely don't leave it in the sun when parked. I have my detector mounted on the dash above the speedometer cluster and I always put my sunshade on whenever I park.

Any brand of radar detector can get cooked by excessive heat. Dark colored items exposed to sunlight within a parked and closed car can reach 180 degrees F, maybe more. Throw some juice to a radar detector which already is at 180 degrees F, and within 5 minutes some of the internal electronics can fry. Also, excessive heat is almost always the primary cause of blown speakers within radar detectors. Piezo speakers (which can't produce voice) are far more immune to excessive heat, but they can only produce higher frequency beeping sounds -- no lower frequency voice sounds.

Preventing your radar detector from being exposed to excessive heat is the surest method for assuring that your radar detector will function properly for a long, long time.
