hardwired my sti and speaker and the speaker wasnt loud until i touched the plug goin into the rd. It will work in just the right spot but it's very touchy and it seems like its the socket part in the sti. Dont suppose they all do this ?

Mine doesn't. Try spinning the plug slightly clockwise, then counterclockwise, in the socket to see if this breaks through any slight oxidation within the speaker jack or on the plug itself. Hopefully this will fix it.Originally Posted by kraked
Another fairly rare possibility which I have seen from time to time over the years with electronics equipment is that the speaker jack itself is defective, with one of its internal plug contacts not being in exactly the right place. But first, try your STi's external speaker with a small transistor radio to be sure that the external speaker cord isn't defective near the plug. Your local Radio Shack probably will let you borrow a pocket radio to take outside for a quick test.
Once you rule out the external speaker's wire and plug, then you have at least narrowed down the problem to the speaker jack in the STi.
good idea with the radio.Ill try to find one
well i tried the radio thing and it didnt do it. Then i found some old mono headphones with the same plug and tried them in the sti and it didnt do it. But the bel speaker & sti does it very easily. But im pretty sure it's in the jack.I have to push the cord downwards and then let go for the speaker to work.A couple times towards me worked. Up or back and sometimes ahead shuts it off even after spinning it around, etc.Better trade it in before its too late i guess

That seems to be enough information to confirm that the STi's speaker jack itself is defective. I feel for you dude! It has got to be a once in a blue moon thing since computers check the wave soldering of all connections on the main circuit board during production -- including the solder connections for the speaker jack. Call Beltronics customer service and explain the situation and that the problem appears to be a defective speaker jack. BTW, if you aren't sure if your STi needs the firmware update for the 33.8 bug, be sure to request that as well.

story of my life,lol
Its a brand new flea bay one but he's exchanging for another brand new unit and this one is a 3307 so im pretty safe on the update thing.Might get stung on the shipping a little bit though is the only bad part besides the waiting for it.
thanks
