Default Two Excellent Ka Saves in one week with the 955.

On Wednesday I had to make a business-related trip in my personal car down I-49, the "Interstate" that connects Shreveport to Lafayette. My hometown is just off this road so I know where all the well-worn traps are. The LEO's usually aren't very creative. Well, on my way back up, there's a section of the interstate that traverses an old lake bottom and floodplain. As soon as I came out of the hills, I got a sporadic Ka blip on the 955. I was in heavy traffic so I figured it was just a Cobra. This continued halfway across the lake bottom (a distance of at least two miles). Well, as I approached an exit, it began to pick up in intensity. Sure enough, on the other side, facing my direction of travel, not my direction (mimicking the misunderstood GOL test) was a state trooper running C/O Ka. WOW! Nice! I can't believe I picked up those bounces from that far off. Good thing, as I was cruising at 80-82 in a 70 mph.

Anyway, next save was this morning. On my usual route there's a well-known speed trap in Bossier City on I-49. Sadly, since I got back into detectors I've only hit it once. Well, this morning, sure enough, from about a mile off, I began getting a strong Ka signal. On the other side of an exit, hiding in the pampas grass, was another state LEO running C/O Ka aimed across the interstate. I got the warning in plenty of time to leisurely drop from 75 to 60 mph (limit is 60 mph). Someone right behind me wasn't lucky and about 1 mile later, I saw those dreaded blue lights coming up behind me. In the back of my mind, I always wonder "did I slow down in time?" even though I know I did. Sure enough, the LEO got out of my lane and pulled behind the doofus still intent on speeding around me.

I'd say my NIB fleabay bargain has turned out to be quite a nice investment indeed.

I just hope they don't get creative and start running I/O again. That's what's funny. They made a big to do on the local news back in July that they were using I/O and that detectors were useless. I've gotten two I/O hits since then but wasn't speeding either time. Everything else has been C/O.

Better to get crap on a wire than your RD!

I havent been happy with eBay lately, I tried getting a Uniden to play with recently, a Lrd 6599SWS... approximately a $180 detector when it was new, SAME price as my 955, so I really wanted to test it out. Dude shipped it to me in a bubble mailer with no other packing materials, so sadly, I ended up witha refund. The unit would self test, and power on, cycle through modes, everything. And i was very impressed with the volume, and the clarity of the female voice used on it, but it would NOT detect radar anymore, so that was a letdown and a half.

But excellent write up on the experience with the 955, good times!

No kidding. I lucked up and got this off a woman who just got it and also just had a baby. She said that she had no plans to speed with a new baby and needed the money. Lol.

My Cobra 9930 and PNI were also new and cheap off fleabay. The 9930 was worth it. It wasn't that bad and I still have it in my wife's car. If nothing else, for the compass. But the PNI was horrible. I did get one good save out of it, though.
