Default Extended Service plan on STi... worth it?

Is it worth to pay $30 for the extended service plan on this? I think you get like 2 years more or something, on top of the standard 1 year.

Also, WHY is it bad to mount 2 RDs in the same car... even if seperated by a good distance?

    Thanks guys! Looking for enlightenment.

When I ordered my STi, I opted for the extended two year service contract. I thought the cost was worth it since you never know when the unit might start having problems once the 1 year warranty is up and you never know when you will be sending in the unit for a flash upgrade which can cost, from what I've been reading, $60.00.

Regarding running two detectors, I don't know all the "why not's" to run two detectors together but I recall posts noting that they can interfere with one another.

    I would vote YES.

    a) I think all RD are bound to go on the fritz, especially after the 1st year.
    b) Given the cost, $30 is not much for 2 more years.
    c) I think it will be selling point if you ever wanted to sell the RD in the future

Here is the detailed explanation, why you can't run two RD on your dash. Read this:

BUT,If you have remote RD installed, you can run another RD in the cabin of your car.I know for a fact, that Bel975r and V1 operated together in the same car,had NO EFFECT on each others performance.

    ^^WOW, thanks!

I already ordered my STi but want to call back and opt for the Service plan... if u get this plan, do they pay for your shipping? Like a return label or something.

Like how you guys are talking about the 33.8 fix. Things like that. Or Self Cal messages. I would hope this plan includes two-way shipping.

You will have to pay for the S&H when sending it in, they will take care of the return and the repair (if the service falls within the warranty guidelines)

My understanding is that flashing updates, issue resolution and normal (2 way) shipping is part of the plan, at least that's how I understand it. My first and only experience so far with Bell has been when I received my STi, it was dated something like 0507. I called to have it replaced since I asked for a unit from 2807 or newer when I placed the order. They mailed me a UPS ticket to ship back the unit and I had a replacement unit about a week later. I cant say this will be standard operating procedure but seems to be at the moment.

    What happened?

When I bought my V995 retail from CC, there was a 2 yr extended warranty slip in the box.

Once you get your new STi, you can go to Bel's web site to enter its serial number and register it online. At that point you can also purchase the extended two year warranty. Alternatively, call Bel again and ask for David in Customer Service. He is a really good dude, is very courteous, and is very knowledgeable about all of Bel's products.
