    Default Need electrical help...

I just ordered a Beltronics STI Professional Radar Detector and it comes with a direct power cord. The instructions for this are as follows....

    Direct-Wire
    Power Cord

The Direct-Wire Power Cord comes with connectors to allow easy hook-up to your car's electrical system.

The black ground wire is fitted with a lug to allow it to be installed under any grounded screw under your vehicles's dashboard.

The red striped wire for +12 volts is fitted with an insulated 1/4" male spade lug. We also have supplied a special 3M connetor that allows you to tap into an existing wire in your vehicle. This connector can be used only with wire guages 14 through 18.

To install the connector, position in around the wire you wish to tap into, and squeeze it with pliers. The Direct-Wire can then be plugged into this connector. Make sure the clear insulator sleeve on the Direct-Wire completely covers the connection.
First off theres only 1 crimp but theres a speaker and a exterior switch that both need a crimp... did they jip me or is it only supposed to have 1?

Basically I am trying to figure out what wire is best for this crimp and how best to get at it. I drive a 2005 mustang GT, and have lots of wires under my dash by the pedals but dont know if they are best. Also how do you thread the wire through a dash? Thanks a mil for the help!

Get an add a circuit at the following link on radarbusters.com.
It will make your 12 volt tap alot easier.

Simply tap your radio circuit in the fuse box then find a ground.

ok few questions... how do you get from the fuse box to the interior of the car? Do you have to drill a hole through the firewall? and 2 how does the radar detector hook up to this product? I see that you said I should use them but no explination of how they work or how to tie them into the detector.

    Thanks again,
    James

Most cars have an interior fuse box usually on the driver side low by your feet. RTFM.
You take the add a circuit and plug it into your radio fuse slot(for example) it holds 2 fuse slots for the radio and the new circuit. The red wire now is your power. You just take your red direct wire and crimp(squish) it in the connecter. The black ground wire needs to go to a metal screw.

The direct wire can now be run up the pillar to the headliner.

If you still have doubt's, perhaps you should consider having Best Buy perform the install. From what I understand it isnt that expensive.

Ok so let me run over what I gota do real quick. Right now I have a connector that is supposed to power my radar detector. This unit has a power cord running from it to my radar detector. Running out of the other end is a black wire and a red wire. The red wire I splice with the red wire from the add a fuse and the black wire I ground... is there a 2nd black wire that needs grounded from the add a fuse as well?

If thats all right then lemme know and I will go do it right away.

In a nut shell youve got it. 1 red (power 12v) Black wire ground. (bolt to the chassis). There is no second ground wire.

That's odd....Autozone is where I purchased mine. Ask Best Buy how much they would hit you for to install it. Might be your best bet.
