So I was coming home and decided to go a few extra miles on the highway so I could come home through town. I'm on this road that has two lanes each direction and the PSL is 40MPH. I'm cruising along at about 45MPH and come up to this car ahead going just under my speed. So I switch lanes and head on up to about 50MPH when I get a K band hit. So I slow down and switch back to the right land behind the other car because this big-ass Hummdinger was coming up behind me pretty quick. About a half-mile longer, around a good curve, and down a little dip here comes the local PD's new unmarked Suburban coming up the dip and my RD goes crazy. The Hummdinger was going, I would guess, a little more than 50MPH (probably 52-53) and the unmarked LEO turns on his lights and flips a U-turn in the road and nails the Hummer.
I wouldn't call it a save for me, but I was alerted around a corner, down a dip, and about a half to three-quarters of a mile in advance. And it gave me plenty of time to slow down to PSL. I couldn't even see the LEO when my RD was at full strength (because of the unmarked, which I've only seen once before). I had to look twice, and sure enough, that was him! I must add that it was a real nice ramp up in my noob opinion(no noticeable jumps in tones). And I got a good laugh out of that Hummer who got nailed.
The thought just popped into my head that I should have turned around and done some range testing. My local PD always leave their radars on for some reason. Anyway, just thought I'd share my "success story" lol.
