Default Freezing, Dead V995 Please Help!

Hi I got a 995 a couple of months ago and today I noticed it doesn’t respond to anything. I have it hard wired so it turns on when I turn my car on. It functions correctly for the first 15 seconds and then freezes. None of the buttons work and there’s no detection. It works for that brief amount of time when I physically turn it on and off. I unplug it every time i leave my car, so it doesn’t overheat and such. I left it on overnight like 2 days ago...

What do you think is wrong? I would really really appreciate any input anyone has cuz I can see there are a lot of knowledgeable people here. Thanks

Hold down its two programming buttons and power it up again, forcing a hard reset of the firmware. Hopefully this will restore it to normal operation.

There is no need to unplug it every time you leave your car if it is powered off, which is obviously is if you have hardwired it to come on only after starting your car. So that brings up another possibility. It is possible that your V995 is getting power -- just not enough of it. Try recrimping the RJ-11 connector in the end of the hardwire cable using a RJ-11 crimping tool. BE SURE TO REMOVE THE FUSE FROM THE HARDWIRE KIT'S FUSE HOLDER FIRST, BEFORE RECRIMPING THE RJ-11 CONNECTOR! This may solve the problem. Also double check your hardwire installation's power and ground connections to be sure that those are good to go too.

Thanks for trying to help me out.
I tried the reset with no luck. I also plugged it into my acc. outlet (cigarette) and the same thing happened. I openned it up to see if anything was wrong with the harware but it all seemed ok. It's just strange how it works for like 15 seconds and then freezes...

    Hi Stan,

You mentioned that you just got your V995 a couple of months back, but what is the manufacturing date on it? The manufacturing date is the last four digits spaced a bit to the right of the serial number. The first two digits indicate the week of manufacture and the last two digits indicate the year of manufacture. For example, "3207" means that the RD was manufactured in week 32 of 2007.

I'm hoping it was a used detector or you bought it from an unauthorized source. Because otherwise, you would have still had warranty through bel. But if you opened it, you'd have had to peel off the sticker, which would have voided it.

You still might be able to send it back to Bel, do you have the receipt? I would call first and tell them that you bought it from an authorized dealer get approval to send it in. even if you took off the sticker as long as you have proof of purchase, also was it within a year, so you will not have to pay to get it repaired.
