I noticed driving around the roads where I work that I was occasionally getting an extremely low detection distance (around 100 feet) on LEOs using Ka. I switched the meter over to the tech display wondering if it was the 33.8 bug. I didn't think this was the case since my build date is 3407, but wanted to test it anyways.
Turns out that the frequency was 35.5 and the LEO did not seem to be using instant on. Most occasions were when he was driving on the other side of the road and the STi would not go off until I was almost right next to him. Also the alerts did not go to full blast signifying use of instant on, instead it showed that it was just picking up a weak signal. Do you guys know of any reason that could explain this? I was thinking that the officer might have a handheld gun and that it might have just been lying in the passenger seat or something, but this has happened at least 5 times in the last 2 weeks so I am unsure.
Also, I tested my STi out on speed indicator signs close to where I live. They use Ka band on 34.7 frequency and the detector was picking those up just fine. I picked up the signal at about .7 of a mile in non-perfect conditions (slight curve in road, traffic, and gun not pointing directly down road) so I don't think its an hardware problem with my detector.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
