    Default Unanswered X65 questions...

I have some questions the Beltronics website nor the Bel manual seem to clarify...

I know the Escort X50 and the Bel X65 can detect POP mode, but the manual says 67ms bursts but

    1) Does it detect the 14-16ms bursts I've been hearing about lately?
    2) Does POP come in burst of K or Ka? Both?
    3) What does AutoScan do exactly? I still receive constant falses in the same areas as if I had it in "Highway" Mode... there is no difference.
    4) I live in Central FL, is it safe to disable X-band since I here only small towns and NJ still use X-band (my RD reaches 8/10 signal strength at some red lights or intersections for no reason, not an LEO in sight!... but thats still kinda strong....) Thanks for the help in advance!

POP arein both the Ka band, 33.8 GHz and the K band, 24.150.

    3. What does AutoScan do exactly
A: Never seen the diference eighter

4 I live in Central FL, is it safe to disable X-band
A: I don't live there... but it is beter behing anoyed with X-False then behing Busted :?

    1) No. The faster POP gun the detectors can't pick up. It is the MPH Z-35 handheld gun, I believe JTW said it has 16ms burst. The detectors will detect the more popular MPH Bee III which uses the 67ms burst.

    2) Both, but the most popular POP gun the BEE III is Ka.

    3) Autoscan filters X band signals. From what I have looked up and my personal experience with the detector, Autoscan does not filter K or Ka bands at all.

4)You would probably be safe disabling X band in FL. To be completely sure, I recommend you look up what radar guns are approved by Florida for state and local cops to use. I did this for VA and saw that no X band gun is approved for use by VA law enforcement.

1.) SML tests, I believe the rx65 was the ONLY detector to pick up 14ms POP
    2.) both
3.) Autoscan breaks the X band signal into 32 channels, and if 4 channels are higher then a certain threshhold it will alert.
4.) do not turn X band off in florida. I believe I read somthing abouyt a floridian getting hit with X not to long ago...

I just noticed the manual states:

"Note: These settings only apply when RX65 is operated in City Mode. X-Band sensitivity is not affected when used in "AutoScan", or "Highway" modes.

Then what does AutoScan *really* do?? :?: :?: :?:

    Stealth'
While X-band radar is unapproved and therefore illegal for use in Va., there were some that were grandfathered as long as they applied a filter to the units to reduce the beam width. The only ones I know of were in the Tidewater area and I don't know if they have upgraded their units to K or Ka yet.

Thanks for the info. Do you know what LE agency might still have them?

See this thread. Someone posted a Florida Statute saying that only K and Ka are approved for use:

    I'll keep X-band on, it won't hurt right ? 8)

But no one yet know what AutoScan does exactly?? Apparently it's supposed to use the RD processor, but what exactly is it filtering/eliminating falses at?

it wont hurt but the falses might drive you nuts.

    From Escort on Auto mode:

Auto / Highway / City Switch
The City button selects Passport’s sensitivity
    mode. We recommend the Auto
    (AutoSensitivity) mode for most driving.
    Passport’s AutoSensitivity mode
    provides long-range warning, with
minimum false alarms. In this mode,
    Passport’s internal computer continuously
    analyzes all incoming signals and
    intelligently adjusts the sensitivity circuits.
    You can also select conventional
Highway and City modes. When driving in
    urban areas where annoying X-band
intrusion alarms and door openers are
common, City mode can be engaged to
lower X-band sensitivity and reduce X-band
alerts. Full sensitivity is maintained on all
other bands. You can customize Passport’s
City mode sensitivity. See the EZProgramming
    section for details.
