    Default Bel Express 795

This is my first detector, I got it from a friend for free . Has anyone on here had any experience with this detector? I know for sure it's not the best or a high preformance RD I was just wondering what some peoples oppions on this detector would be. Not that I just got it, I've had it for about a month and found out it detects police K band radar about 1 1/2 miles and Ka band just a little under 1 mile. The only thing that I wonder about it is if it can actualy detect I/O or laser. I doubt it detects I/O but I think there's a possibility it can detect laser because there's these brackets right above the X,K,Ka LED's that say [laser] so I assume it might detect it, either way I guess it probably wont pick it up. I've even tried to gather up all my house remotes and see if it would pick anything up..but it didn't . Oh well, I don't plant to stick with this thing long as I'm currently saving up for a 9500i.
The bel Sti looks and sounds NICE I would just rather the extra $50 to go towards the GPS than a completley immune RDD RD.

    Default Express 795

I have three of these detectors(one in each car) and I can tell you that they work and work very well. My wife did'nt like radar detectors very much but after seeing what mine could do, it's the first thing she turns on when she backs out of the garage. They do pick up very well on x, K, and Ka (i/o) and you can't beat the price you paid!

I've been through a few low-cost detectors that I found for seemingly smoking deals only to learn they just didn't do their job (The "steel eye" I got off of Woot was total garbage). I have an Express 795 that was fairly low cost, but it actually picks up radar signals ok. Law enforcement and radar signs, it seems to alert to them. I also like the simplistic visual layout with the LEDs. Though I would wish for some different colors for the K and Ka band LEDs. Particularly at night when one can't read the painted-on label.

Compared to my Vector 995, the E795:
    * Gives more false signals, especially on X band where the V995 has better filtering
    * Alerts to radar signals noticeably close than my V995 does
    * Alerts to Laser when driving by the end of the runway at the airport, same as the V995 does (the airport uses a system for wind shear which sets off laser alerts)

So it does work. But I don't pretend the E795 is a top contender. Compared to today's detectors, the E795 might be graded a C+ or B-. Passing, but nothing special.

I'm looking to trade in my E795...Beltronics says they'll give me $50 for it toward a new detector, so that's the probable path. As a side note, the Vector 940, 955, 965 have basically the same performance as the V995. So trading in your Express 795 for a V940:

    $170
    - 50
    -----
    $120 = V940 - some pretty good performance

    Default E795 vs V940

I use a V940 in my work truck and can tell you that it is a better detector than the 795 . It does cost about twice as much as the 795 but for the money the 795 is hard to beat. I had a good save last night with the 795 on K band.

Yeah, K band detection is amazing for the 795 whitch is especialy good for me because a some LEOs use K band here.

I Have been using an Express 795 for a few months now... I also have a Vector 895. Both myself and a good friend of mine bought these units at the same time. He has since upgraded to an Sti Driver and I have ended up with the hand me down. I see really no performance difference between these units. I am using one in each of my cars and have very good luck with them. I unfortunately do not have a manual for the 795, and would like to also use this oportunity to beg... If anyone has a copy of this manual they could post, I would really appreciate it!!! Thank you in advance!

I decided to put my bell 795 high on my windshields for once. I was driving down this hilly and and very curvy road. I received a K band alert and I quickly slowed down form 15 over because I thought the cop my come around a corner within 20 seconds or so. to my surprise, I had to drive an entire minute and a half before I even had sight of this cop. mounting the E795 high on the windshield gave it nearly 3 times in normal detection range in hilly curvy areas I will never mount my RD low on the windshield again because this thing now easily out performs the passport 8500

I believe the 795 is based off the M2 platform (no longer made) The 795 is a respectable performer and will save you, but just not as good as the newer bels out there. I would say it is still better than a new Cobra and many Whistlers.

Wow, never thought my old thread would be brought back up. Yeah, mounting locations are deffinatley important and can make a difference IMO. I wouldn't recomend using the E-795 though, with the bushnell K Band radar gun I have it takes like 2-3 seconds with the radar right in front of it for it to start going off in full alert, so you can forget about detecting I/O shots with it. It's deffinatley better than a cobra in detection but not by much, same when it comes to I/O but I personally find the escort 8500 (non X50 or X50) to be much better than the E-795 for lots of reasons.

Yup, it uses the old light weight M2 horn. It used to save me back in the day but it's a RD I would never use again..

huh a K!!! band gun giving a bel trouble? wow I didn't think any detectors had to much trouble with that old band. I must have never encountered it. well thanks for the heads up, I'm gonna look into this more.
