Default Ticketed with RX-65 and PO'd.. Need some answers...

I'm New here, bear with me. I have a new Bel RX-65, 6 weeks old, seemed to work flawlessly. And today?

Ticketed $ 185.50 for 63 in a 45, Tampa Florida. Here are the specifics:

Cop said he was using " ultralite " laser
My guess is 30-200 yards off, stationary.
My Bel Radar DID NOT go off
Have white car, with black bra ( some laser prevention? )

Personally, I think that ticket was " bogus " because no Bel detection at all, and my car just " looks " fast. My questions are as follows:

    1. Will Bel pay for this ticket?
    2. If I go to Court, can I win? How can the cop prove it was my car or even if the radar was on? My RX-65 says it wasn't. Does it come down to his word against mine?
    3. As far as I'm concerned, this shouldn't have happened and this is why I spent the " big bucks " for the RX-65....So.... why did it, and how can I avoid this happening again?

    Thanks much in advance.

Cop said he was using " ultralite " laser = LASER = BAD

My guess is 30-200 yards off, stationary. = OK

My Bel Radar DID NOT go off = LASER.. it is "normal"

Have white car, with black bra ( some laser prevention? ) NAH...

at close range Radar detector do poorly on detecting LASER
and having a black bra does help but does not JAM Anything

You should buy a Laser Jammer + VEIL
    white car are easy target

    Sorry :?

    ps:

    1. Will Bel pay for this ticket?
    R: NO

    2. If I go to Court, can I win? How can the cop prove it was my car or even if the radar was on? My RX-65 says it wasn't. Does it come down to his word against mine?
R: the court will just laught at you... you have a radar detector not a LASER detector/Jammer.. some radar can detect laser but too me they all do Poorly

    3. As far as I'm concerned, this shouldn't have happened and this is why I spent the " big bucks " for the RX-65....So.... why did it, and how can I avoid this happening again?

R: Buy Laser jammer + VEIL

You could try to "win" but it would probably cost a lot of $ and BS. Might be better better to plea bargain.

    Get a laser jammer.
The RX-65 is lacking for laser detection, and there are cases where it won't alert you to a direct hit at all. I can pretty much guarantee that the V1 would alert to almost all direct hits, but it might not have saved you the ticket either unless he couldn't get a speed reading immediately.

Laser is incredibly difficult for a detector to pick up. At extremely close range there's almost no chance because the beam is so narrow. Even jammers sometimes have trouble at that range. There's not a whole lot you could have done except see him before he saw you. Was he very well hidden? Every "save" against laser in recent memory was because I either saw the officer first or I got an indication from all the brake lights flashing in front of me.

at that range the beam is small so no surprise your detector didn't go off. even if it did you're done anyway. it would just tell you that you were getting a ticket before the cop could turn his lights on.

It would have happened with any detector

So far everyone has hit the nail on the head about laser detection. The Rx65 is primarily a radar detector. Most radar detectors have a difficult time picking up laser (with the exception of the V1, per SML '05).

Just last friday my x50 saved me from a radar/laser speed trap by sheer luck. Two FHP cops, one shooting instant on Ka and the other using laser. I picked up the Ka quite early, but laser did not go off until I was 50 feet from the cops (they nailed the SUV riding beside me)

By the way, where in tampa were you? I want to know where to be on the lookout.

My advice follow a rabbit next time. If you're passing cars left and right then you're just asking for it. You probably would have been saved if it was radar, but all of us know that Laser is a dif story. I rarely speed very much in the city because Laser is out there. Its not wide spread, but if im going to speed in the city its no more than 5 over on city streets unless I have a rabbit. This probably has saved me more than having a RD. Sorry for you luck, but it does happen and its almost always because of Laser. As said before a Jammer would have helped. One question at that range shouldn't you have been able to see the officer on the side of the road? Keep your eyes open and look for places that you would sit if you were a LEO.

This would have happend with any detector and this is true with even the highend ones as well. try not to speed around there again as maybe this is only a one time thing.
