    Default RX65 VS V995

I have been trying both out for a couple days making passes by Leos using K and Ka band radar and have found out that my V995 m4 alerts 1-2 seconds quicker than the RX65. This surprised me. I thought the RX65 was supposed to be a better rd. The only thing I have found is that the RX65 has better features. The RX65 has never failed to alert but my V995 has better range in my opinion. I also do not think the RX65 has as good qaulity sound from speaker even though the RX65 is newer. Live and learn I guess. Will be saving now for my 9500i.

Reading your signature they are both M4's right? Also, did you buy both new or used? Maybe the the Rx65 needs a tune up if not new.

And finally, there are production variances along platforms, look at the GOL tests and you will see that. The bottom line is since the rx65 is more money does not mean it is better, they are pretty much the same detector except for a few each features on the rx65.

and get that RX65 in USA mode if you haven't already, that'll help it a lot on Ka detection.

They are both M4 platform. I really do like the threat display on the RX65 though. It is one thing the 995 doesn't have that is great. I bought both new also. It is in usa mode.

Are you running them together? As you know that is not a good idea. I would run seperately then see how it stacks up.

Is the RX-65 in its black case getting hotter compared to your V995 due to sunlight? A cooler running RD usually is a bit more sensitive compared to when it is hotter. You could try directing some cool AC air towards the RDs and then see if you get more consistent results between the two. And from what I can gather from GOL's tests, it looks like production variance is held to within 2dBm which is very good.

I, too, am interested in finding out more about the differences between the M4 detectors. Do the x50, RX65, and the Vectors all perform about the same? What has got me wondering is that the 9500i kills them all, yet it still uses the M4 horn. Obviously, there is something different about its design that makes it superior. Is there something about the x50 or RX65 PHYSICALLY that makes them better than the Vectors? Any insight would be appreciated.

The X50, RX65 and Vectors all perform about the same. The 9500i uses the exact same M4 platform, but this platform and horn are mounted upside down inside the 9500i case compared to the other M4 models. This upside down mounting turns the M4's upward flared horn into a downward flared horn which is a bit more efficient at picking up additional radar reflections off of your vehicle's hood and off of the road ahead. The 9500i most likely has super tweaked signal processing algorithms in its firmware. An Escort CS rep once told me that the 9500i has far more firmware code in it compared to any other radar detector which Belscort has produced to date. So, my guess as to why the 9500i performs somewhat better compared to its M4 siblings is due to the combination of its upside down mounted horn and firmware tweaked to the max.

I agree, plus in order to justify 200 bucks more it must perform better, because the user to the higher end detectors will just go to a cheap model.

It i just the added software features that come with it to make the price difference. The detection range should be near identical.

    I saw a video of someone flashing I think a 955 to a rx65 firmware.
