Default POP on or off in northern ontario

I was just wondering if the cops up here in northern ontario (or any part of ontario) use "POP" radar guns? I want to turn the pop off on my STI or should I leave it on? Is there a difference in sensetivity with the pop off? Also is there any X Band radar being used in northern ontario or elsewhere in ontario?

Pop off. OPP use Decatur K band almost exclusively for radar. They also have a large compliment of LTI 20/20, Ultralytes and their newest toy the Laser Atlanta type R.

While there have been some forum members claiming to have come across X band up north in the past, the OPP for sure won't be using it.

You might (long shot at best) still find it in a smaller town that has its own local police detachment (not OPP) but I wouldn't be betting the farm on it.

Where are you located in N.ON?

And besides the very accurate info Jerry just gave you, don't forget that POP is used to beat the RDs, as no such items in Ontario (and cops know this already) no reason in the world to bother themselves with this kind of feature... so: POP OFF for good

I saw some Kustom Golden Eagle 35.5 a few years ago, but I've only come across K band for the past number of years.

Any idea what freq. Ka they're using?

I saw 35.5 being used on the 401 in eastern ontario--around the Kingston area--but that was like 6 or 7 years ago.

As far as Ka being used again--I would suspect that the OPP orders its units from its central HQ, and sends the radar units out around the province to different detachments. This way, if Ka is being used in Ontario by the OPP, it could be anywhere in the province (If anyone can confirm or correct this theory, I'd much appreciate it.)

My 1st Ka encounter with OPP was on the 401 in Toronto area, marked car. The 2nd was this month near London Ontario, unmarked car with heavily tinted windows, using I/O Ka while driving along 401.

Sorry I was not able to get the frequencies.

But I got a good look at the unmarked car, and it looked like MPH. (33.8 )
