    Default STI Leaking?

So I was bored last night and was playing with my Cobra 9680 and my STI, having both of them on and touching the LNA's together watching the STI go nuts picking up the leaky Cobra (The Cobra actually leaked more with all bands turned on). But then, the Cobra started picking up a POP alert from STI! Now isn't the total shield technology supposed to stop any leakage or is there something wrong with my STI?

Being a cobra, it's probably picking up its own leakage.

The STi does leak a very tiny amount of radiation from its dual horns. The Professor (jimbonzzz) can detect the LO frequencies of the STi with his lab equipment placed up to a very short distance (inches) in front of the horns. Yet the STi's leakage is so minimal that the Spectre IV can't detect the STi even if you were to park your car head to head with a Spectre IV equipped cop car.

As far as your Cobra getting POPs from your STi while you were playing around with both of them, the Cobra could either have just momentarily detected the STi's Ka signal sweep at this close range, or the Cobra could have seen a reflected image of its own signal sweep (ghosting) from within the STi's dual horns when you pointed both of them directly at each other.

Radar detectors which I use: 9500ci and STi. Check out my Vintage Radar Detector collection. Quotes from forum members:
Jag42: "He probably owns the Broke Back Rocky Mountain Radar detector."
partsfreak: "A Cobra is about as useful as a stripper pole in a convent."

The STI almost certainly leaks (it's the nature of a superhet receiver), but it doesn't leak at any frequencies that are useful for an RDD.... (that is, if an RDD alerts to it, it'd alert to everything and anything....)
