    Default V-955 Strange behavior

i just bought a V-955 and am happy with it overall, but for some reason whenever it picks up Ka-band it stays at 1 bar until I am within 50' then it jumps to 5 bars. I've been getting good range, about 2 miles but the whole time its at 1 bar. any suggestions?

Hmm...Try a factory reset. To reset your V955, turn off your V955, then hold down the two program buttons and then press the power button at the same time to power up the V955 again. RESET should be displayed along with the firmware version. Hopefully this will fix the ramp-up to be more like what you expect. If after a few days you notice that your V955 still seems to have poor ramp-up, try to spot what type of radar guns are being used in your area and how they are mounted. Another thing to consider is what type of windshield your car has. If your car has an athermic windshield, then you will have to check your car's owners manual to see if and where any non-athermic or "clear" spots are located on the windshield.

Anyway, this is all I can think of right off the bat.

Hate to say it but Bels/escort products are known to have horrible ramp up problems.....

is it possible that the cars in front of the LEO were causing the signal to be weaker when it reaches my car. the factory reset didn't help.

Ka band radar, being a higher frequency, is much more directional compared to K band or X band radar. It also behaves differently when trying to pass by obstacles such as cars which are line-of-sight between you and the radar gun. This could easily explain why your V955 only alerts weakly yet then alerts much more strongly once your V955 has a clear line-of-sight to the radar gun location.

The ramp-up profile in a Vector is the same regardless of radar band. Thus, you can test the ramp-up by slowly driving towards a K band microwave door opener. This type of test is best performed at night when the parking lot is mostly empty of cars. If during this test you get a nice and smooth ramp-up then everything is okay with your radar detector since you already have mentioned that you are getting excellent range.
