    Default Problem hardwiring

I'm trying to direct wire my dad's V965 into his F150. I'm doing this with a phone cord, attaching the black to ground and the red wire to a switched power source.

I've already tried a couple fuses, but no luck. I was able to find one (the one for the radio, 20A) and it did get 12V, but when I connected the plug to the RD, it gave multiple soft clicks. I didn't try turning it on. Normally, when you connect the RD to a 12V source (lighter plug) it only gives on soft click. Is the 20A to much to connect it to? I was trying to stay stay with a 5A or 10A source...I'll keep looking.

A 5 amp circuit is all you need, but you'll still need to put a fuse inline on your hot wire of the rd or else you risk frying the rd.So if you can't find one it's okay.Just put a 1 to 3 amp inline fuse and you'll be good.

If you went the add a fuse route, just put a 1 or 3 amp fuse in the 2nd spot on the add a fuse and you should be fine, just make sure the spot use is not more than 10 amps. And yes 20 amps is way beyond what you should ever use.
