I am on a trip from the Puget Sound area to the Southwest. I had multiple encounters KA band hits on I-90. One sneaky WSP was partially hiding his vehicle on an overpass with a large road sign connected to it, he was running IO Ka band. I found a few motorcycle cops using K and KA guns. I dropped down to I-84 in Oregon. In the pass all I found was most OSP using CO K band. This time was different, I had IO K band, IO X band, IO Ka band and Laser. I not sure what has changed in Oregon, the OSP are much more agggresive in their enforcement of their 65 mph. There are several road projects between Pendleton and Ontario, this may partially account for increased enforcement. I have noticed that the OSP in this area is much more stealthy and sneaky in their tactics. I followed one OSP running IO K band for a distance of 10 miles, I followed at a distance of one quarter to one half of a mile.
I thought X band was essentially dead in the northwest, I found otherwise I saw my rabbit get IO'ed by X band. The OSP run dark blue Crown Victorias, he was hidden in a shady spot on the road. It was very difficult to see the car even from a half mile away.
The point of this post is the need for a good radar detector on all bands. With the price a fuel, I keep my speed below the posted limit for better mileage. As Mike V would say situational awareness is important to me.
