Default Beltronics 995 V.S Ka band

Hi i just want to see how many of you own the 995 and how does it perform with 35.5 ka band. Iam thinking about getting, and using it for daily and using my v1 for higway only. Is the 995 as good as rx65 with ka when rx65 put into usa mode or what.

I happen to own a Bel 995 and Bel RX 65. Both are very close in detection range. The RX65 has a few more features than the Bel 995 thats it.

995 owner here, S7, v4.5. I live in northern CA. The CHP uses Ka here exclusively. I get shot with it daily on my commute. 35.5 is common. My detector does very well against this threat and typically gives 1/4 - 1/2 mile warning depending on conditions.

I don't feel you will notice any increased detection using an RX65. What you will get are a few more features.

I use a V995 (S7) and V955 (M4) daily in one of my two vehicles. Both give excellent Ka alerts ahead of time. I do receive a lot of false K-band alerts, at the same locations each day. I've locked out X-band on both of them.

The RX65 in USA mode is maybe around 25 percent more sensitive to the three USA Ka band radar frequencies. That is enough to give you an edge, especially in over-the-hill and shallow around-the-curve encounters. Yet of course there is the very small possibility of encountering a Ka radar gun which is either out of calibration or which has been deliberately detuned to not be operating on or close to one of the three USA Ka band radar gun frequencies of 33.8, 34.7 or 35.5. I can't say that I am really keen on using the RX65's USA mode because, knowing my luck, I would be hit with a Ka radar gun which was somewhat out of whack and transmitting on something weird like 34.2MHz.

Speaking of luck, so far this summer I have been attacked by yellow jackets, hornets, and wasps! It wass really getting to be quite annoying let alone painful. The wasp stings all over my back were the last straw. Now I've nuked all hives within 500 feet of my house. Before this summer, the last time I was stung by any venomous insects was when I was a kid -- and it was a bee. I've also learned now from first hand experience that yellow jacket stings can intensely itch for up to two weeks and will wake you up at night to find yourself scratching your skin off! I guess the bee colony populations in my area are way down since yellow jackets, hornets and wasps seem to have taken over now. Come to think of it, I haven't seen one bee for the past two summers.

Sorry to get off topic.

Memtek,

I will have to put my RX65 in USA mode and check it for increased sensitivity. Sorry to hear about your misfortune with the yellowjackets and wasps, I have been there myself and its no fun. I just went to the trouble to find out my Fujitsu life book has developed a problem while updating to service pack 3 for Windows XP. Now to the task of determing whether its hadware or software.

From what I've read, its SP3. If you are lucky enough that SP3 booted up, at least you can roll it back to SP2 and be thankful that you didn't have to do a completely fresh install of XP.

On an off-topic note, this summer we have lots of rock hornets flying around the yard. They are big! The biggest one I've seen is about 3 inches long, and I have been told by neighbors that their sting is nearly as painful as a black scorpion sting or roughly 10 times stronger than a wasp sting.

Wow,

Rock hornets 3 inches long I wouldn't want to stung by one of them, sounds nasty.

On another note, on the Fujitsu I pretty sure it's a hardware issue. I was able to get the laptop booted up. after using it for a period of 15 minutes. It locked up tighter than a drum.

I think I recall reading somewhere that the drivers included in SP3 for some sound cards is the cause of many SP3 issues, and that some people have simply installed older sound card drivers to resolve problems?
