I already have a STI Driver that works well for me in my car, but the problem is that in my SUV I just can not seem to find a place to mount it where it will not be seen, as I live in a banned area. The LEO's here tend to do seat belt and DUI checks in places where you can not see them until its too late, such as highway on ramps that have a blind bend and when you pull up they tend to stick their heads right into the car trying to smell booze. So this got me to thinking that my best bet would be an STI-R. How well does the STI-R head hold up to road salt and ice? When they salt the roads here after the roads get wet the salt is thick enough to paint your black car white.
I would contact Escort and discuss this issue with them since it sounds like very extreme conditions.

I've owned many Bel remote RDs (as well as a Whistler and an unmentionable), plus various Laser heads. Sooner or later, moisture gets in and wreaks havoc. Those used in winter never outlived the warranty. I took one RD apart once and found noticeable corrosion, presumably from just a little salt. Higher speeds tend to push the moisture in even faster, in my experience. They can often be dried by leaving in sunlight, but there's no good way to clear out the salt. Thus, my advice is to mount as much as you can inside, even if it requires extreme creativity.

Fixed Limit Speed Enforcement is NOT "Revenue Generation". To the contrary, it is legalized Highway Robbery. Moreover, it undermines the interests of public safety for at least three reasons: 1) by diverting scrutiny from dangerous behaviors; 2) by eroding confidence in law enforcement; and 3) by oiling the gears of corruption.
This is what I was afraid of, and at $1100 for something that will be dead in no time just does not seems right. At this point I'll have to take my chances with the STI Driver. I just noticed that you lost a V1 to the OPP how much did the ticket cost you?

Keep in mind that Bel now has an extended service plan, for a small additional fee, which would allow you to get at least 3 years out of it, one way or another.
I don't remember the ticket cost, but I was more concerned with other implications (e.g., insurance, record). I think the ticket cost was less than the V1 cost, but that was a few years ago so it may have increased. Overall, it was an expensive learning experience, even then. With Ontario's latest so-called "Racing" law, I'd much rather risk any detector than risk loss of car and license for a week for just going with the flow. The cost for that is often in the thousands, counting towing and impound expenses.

From what I have heard the fine that is given is $175 for a detector but can range $100-$1000 in Ontario. The new racing law can set you back $2000- $10000 plus tow and storage fees. I havent seen a speeding ticket in over 10 years. My motives are a little different then most. I have never had any run ins with the police, I just hate the way police handle themselves in the city that I live in. 90% of speeders in my city are ticketed at the end of the month, weather permitting. I'm more interested in knowing when and where the city is trying to rape my wallet and if I can slow down traffic enough behind me to save a few drivers that brings me joy aswell.

i´v been offered a brand new STi-R for a good price , still i need to know does the audio rampup suck as bad on it as on the STI ?
Thanks
LLP
Well, yes. But on the bright side the word is that Bel next will be fixing the audio ramp-up on the STi-R. I confirmed with one of their CS reps that only the STi-R's interface module will have to be sent in to get the new ramp-up fix when it becomes available.
