Default 1 year later - My STI perspective

Well, I have had this unit for over a year now and it continues to amaze me. I used in Canada a fair bit at first and it worked flawlessly. Never detected by Leo and always gave lots of notice. Since I have moved to St Louis I have really seen the unit preform. The LEO's are much more sneaky down here and almost always use KA in my area. I commonly receive 1 mile notice, and had one at over 1.5 miles notice. I agree the Ramp up sucks, but aside from that I am amazed at the performance. I cannot even count the number of saves from the unit. If anyone is considering buying this unit I highly recommend it. It has never let me down - around corners and up hills it always picks up the KA alert with time to react.

The Sti is the one I am hanging onto until Escort makes a portable undetectable unit.

Stealth is becoming a greater factor in my choice because of the insistence that "if you run a RD you must be a scofflaw."

I'd like a ci, but I own/need more than one car and can't afford to have one for each vehicle.

Great review, I agree it works great there with all the 34.7 ka threat and the hilly, twisty roads you have it is as good as you can get for those conditions.

Sailor_David: Nice update! If I might inquire, which version/firmware do you have on your Sti?

There is a big difference. In Ontario since they assume for the most part no one has a RD they do not worry much about instant On. In fact in 95% of the cases it was constant on K or KA. The biggest concern is try to be "out of sight" so they are not seen before they can get a reading.

Yeap, and god bless them for it.

I was driving this long weekend, and they're so lazy up here that all 3 cops I passed (and noticed) on the local roads had left their radars on the whole time... while parked in the local coffee shop or driving in heavy traffic!

One pulled up right next to me at a red light and my STI-r was going nuts with a KA 35.5 alert... Didn't even occur to me that they would leave them on in heavy traffic so I didn't think to mute it as I was scanning ahead looking for the source.. :P I guess he didn't hear it or didn't know what it was cuz he didn't even bat an eye at me!

I've had my STi since 2006, I bought it as soon as those early problems were sorted out. I have been extremely happy with the unit. It has not let me down!

I'm glad Beltronics has continued to support it and upgraded the firmware and made the unit the best it can be. (minus the ramp up)

It's just a nice feeling driving around knowing your RD can't be detected, before my STi I always had too look behind my shoulder and at times unplug the my RD while driving past LEO's.

STi FTW!
