Default deciding...sti? or gps? anything on the horizon?

    Hello:

I am a frequent NYC to VA to North Carolina driver.

I like GPS but need total protection. I am the tail end of my cars life so a built in doesn't make much sense. Does anyone know if any total protection radar detector has gps? Something coming? I would love lazer shifting here in nyc, (which is mostly what they use in manhattan) but the price is so far apart. Please anyone have any knowledge of upcoming future products? Or should I just go with a sti and if something does come out in the far future....sell it and get the upgrade in the future?? Thoughts before I drop the $ on the sti?

    Its a 2004 VW touareg V8 SUV.

    thanks

    david

The 9500ci is the only option in your case. GPS, Ultimate detection (Has the best performance of any detector and nothing comes close), Stealth, Laser Shifting, and more.

Its 1600 but in your case well worth it, the 9500ci has everything you mention you wanted.

The 9500ci is a great detector, but the shifters will not protect a SUV like you have. You will also have to invest in a quality jammer such as the Laser Interceptor or a 4 head Blinder unit.

I to like the GPS features of the ci, and have been extremely impressed with the detection range of radar versus the V1.

Since you drive through VA a fair amount the only choice if you want the GPS feature is the ci. But you are paying a premium for laser shifters that probably will not protect a vehicle of the size you are driving.

My $0.02 is to get a new STi Driver. It has great detection. When you order it, do it over the phone and ask for the "ramp-up fix". With the "fix" it has as good or better ramp-up as the V1. When you get your car situation straightened out, get a good set of jammers. You will be good to go.

Definitely go with the STi as you mentioned that you are nearly "done" with your car.

    Hope not!

I would go with the Sti also. Mine works really, really well and the stealth is nice for spending 1/3 the cost of a 9500CI.
